McGarity: SEC Needs Big 10's Rules Against Oversigning
"We will not oversign at Georgia, either," McGarity said.
He also points to Machen’s letter and says, "I'm sure The University of Georgia echoes his stance on oversigning."
So what can be done to limit the practice?
McGarity’s preference would be a rule similar to what the Big Ten has in place. By instituting that, McGarity says the SEC could then help initiate change on the national level.

The comments from Mark Richt were particularly interesting.
Predictably, what it comes down to for him is not wanting to make a promise to a prospect that he can’t keep.
Go 'Dawgs!
Richt's been saying that for awhile now...
He told Andy Staples the same thing in 2008:
“I don’t want to oversign, then tell one of the kids we’ve already got, ’You’ve got no value to us’ and toss him aside. I’m not going to do that.”

To be clear on what this means, Mark Richt has the choice of 25 to 30 more draft picks every 4 years, but because accepting them would require behaving in a highly unethical manner, he chooses to turn them down.
And we’re supposed to pretend, as all CFB media members and most fans do, that 25 to 30 fewer draft picks every 4 years, does not put a coach at a significant disadvantage compared to other coaches. We’re supposed to – at most – casually note this fact but then quickly move on to talking about the results that make those other coaches so much better than Richt.
Yeah… um… sorry, but I’m not an idiot. As much as I’d like for reality to be otherwise, I’m not just going to pretend that such obvious problems don’t matter. We did that with MLB in the late 90s, early 00s. Turns out that it was really, really lame of us.
