At a Georgia Fall Invitational at Gabrielsen Natatorium described as "a dress rehearsal" for the NCAA Championships, the Bulldog swimming and diving teams enjoyed a successful weekend in which they placed several athletes in the March national competitions.
On Friday, Amber McDermott and Wendy Trott finished first and second in the women’s 500 freestyle race, while Melanie Margalis won the 200 individual medley. As a result, all three swimmers qualified for the NCAAs.
On Saturday, Margalis served as part of the four-woman team that won the 800 freestyle relay, and two other members of that squad, Megan Romano and Shannon Vreeland, also finished first and second in the 200 freestyle.
There were additional qualifiers on Sunday, when the Lady Bulldogs won the event with 995 points to finish well out in front of second-place Cal with 745.5 points. The Georgia men finished third.
