Around SBN: Yankees Deny Rumors That Team Is For Sale

The Big Ten and the Pac-12 have agreed to a league-wide non-conference scheduling arrangement, effective as of 2017. In addition to cementing the eight-game conference schedule (SEC, take note), doesn't this basically ensure that the tentatively-set 2020 and 2021 meetings between Georgia and Ohio State are virtually assured of not happening?

As a Buckeye...

…now living/working in Athens, this was my first thought. I was more than looking forward to showing friends and family the best college football town out there.

From what I’ve heard, it’s not so much that the PAC-12 arrangement will lead to canceling the UGA-OSU meetings, but that OSU’s arrangement with Oklahoma might force their canceling the UGA meetings. OSU has already stated that the OU meetings will happen, and that they will work with the PAC-12 to schedule softer PAC-12 teams those years. This means that they will get “heavy” PAC-12 hitters (take a break to laugh at the idea of a heavy PAC-12 hitter) during subsequent years. If so, UGA will go by the wayside.

WIth that said, there is a chance that it still happens. OSU has no strong OOC teams in 2018-19 on the schedule. If they use those years to play a few stronger PAC-12 teams, take 2020-21 for weaker PAC-12 teams, and then back to strong PAC-12 teams in 2022, they could keep UGA on the schedule.

tl;dr version: A lot will depend on scheduling negotiations between PAC-12/Big10/OSU. I really hope they find a way to make it happen.

Thanks for the info, kmzipsgolf.

I’ve spent some time in Columbus before, and I’m really looking forward to enjoying a Georgia game in the ’Shoe.

I forgot to add...

…the obligatory statement that OSU always has the toughest OOC schedule.

It’s a fact!

Sorry about the oversight.

Don't worry...

…I’m just working my way in the front door before I bust out the: It’s THE Ohio State University. I’ll then proceed to discredit anything you say based on some ignorant gross stereotype of “the south.”
