Willie Martinez was allegedly a candidate for the FAU head coaching job
According to ESPN, Carl Pelini has verbally accepted the job. The other candidates included Willie Martinez as well as "Garrick McGee, Mike Stoops, Eddie Gran, [and] Curtis Luper."
Wow. I, for one, am glad he's staying at Oklahoma. Maybe we'll see another Baylor victory next year, or worse.

Is it possible to go from a higher coaching high to a lower coaching low...
… than to go from Howard Schnellenberger to Willie Martinez?

Vince Dooley to Ray Goff?
The glory years of both Schnellenberger and Dooley are a bit before my time so perhaps I’m a bit off.

Fun Fact:
Willie Martinez played for Schnellenberger on the 1983 Miami Hurricanes championship squad.
I'm pretty sure he was also on the 1984 Miami team that gave up "Hail Flutie."
I maintain that Willie was scarred for life by that play, and the fear of a repeat performance has infected his defensive backfields ever since.

The funniest part about this
Is that OU fans seem to think that he isn’t the problem. Put 2 and 2 together people.
Good, let them keep thinking that.

Amen!
Willie was the loser to be named later in the Gary Gibbs trade.
