Dr. Saturday Saves Bulldog Nation from Experiencing a Moment of Joy
Counterargument: Georgia will deserve to win the East if the Bulldogs beat Kentucky because the 'Dawgs will have gone 4-1 against the division, and, unlike the only other contender in the East, the Red and Black will have succeeded in beating Auburn at home.
In addition, the Bulldogs have been statistically superior to, and often statistically dominant over, every conference opponent they've faced, convincingly beating (on the field, if not always on the scoreboard) the opposition. Boise State gets credit for overpowering inferior opponents; why not Georgia?

One other point:
Georgia benefits from not having to play the Western Division heavyweights the other Eastern Division teams had to play. The other Eastern Division teams have worse records than Georgia because they had to play such good teams. Having such bad records makes the other Eastern Division teams bad teams. Georgia isn’t that good a team because Georgia beat so many teams with bad records. These are the same teams that acquired such bad records by playing such good Western Division teams, which we know are good teams because they beat these same bad teams.

So Georgia is bad because they beat bad teams...
… who were bad partially because they lost to Georgia.
Circular argument is circular.

Dear Dr. Saturday,
I started to just say, “Oh Bite Me!” and leave things at that, but then I had another thought. A few years back when we were the pre-season favorite but had one of the worst possible schedules, no one gave us any extra credit for having a horrid schedule, instead we got Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl, which was and remains an insult.
That same year, no one said Florida got to the big MNC game by beating a bunch of nobodies plus us. Just this year, the “they don’t play any worthy teams” argument was dismissed when applied to Boise State. So you know what, at the end of the day – the schedule is the schedule, and when you win you win. So yeah, Bite.Me.

Yeah it is kind of circular
But if they want to compare schedules, why not?
UF has lost to: Bama,* LSU,* Auburn,* UGA, and SCAR.
Auburn has lost to: UGA, LSU, Clemson, and Arky.
Miss State has lost to: UGA, Bama, LSU, Arky, Barn, and SCAR.
UT lost to: UGA, Bama, LSU, Arky, Scar, UF
Who Bama has beaten in the SEC: Miss State, Ole Miss, UT, Vandy, Arky, and UF*.
Who LSU has beaten in the SEC: Miss State, Ole Miss, UT, UF,* Auburn, and Bama.
Who Arky has beaten in the SEC: Auburn, UT, Vandy, SCAR,* and Ole Miss.
Who Georgia has beaten in the SEC: Miss State, Ole Miss, UT, UF, and Vandy
*Without Brantley (for a majority of the game)
*Without Marcus Lattimore
I won’t deny we lucked out by not having to play any of these teams, but it’s not like our schedule has been substantially different than any of theirs. The argument seems to be that they deserve to be ranked because (a) they play each other and (b) they play other teams that had to play them, but UGA has had an easy schedule because they only beat teams that lost to the big 3.
Further, why does Arky get the benefit of the doubt but UGA doesn’t? Both of use have played exactly one game against an elite opponent (Bama, Boise) and both were pantsed in those games. Somehow these guys are “elite”, but UGA is just a product of a beneficial schedule. Just doesn’t make sense to me.
Excellent point about Arkansas.
For what it’s worth, one of the reasons Georgia had a weaker conference slate than the other SEC East teams was that the Bulldogs didn’t have to play Georgia.

If Georgia played Georgia, it woud be the game of the MILLENIUM.

And when we lose, and fall out of the rankings
we still wouldn’t have beaten a ranked opponent.

I broke out my 8.5x11 game simulation triangle
woke my 3 yr old nephew and just ran it on a prepared wooden surface…It was a tie game going into the 6th OT when the game was called because of juice box flooding on the field.

According to Sagarin
Arky has an easier SOS then UGA. UGA’s SOS is 34th in the nation (10th SEC) while Arky limps in at 49th (11 SEC). I believe that the only reason Arky is getting such praise is that they are one of the multitude of 1 loss teams, and everyone is trying to hype the potential for a 3 way tie in the West. I will not say that will not happen (Iowa State just beat Okie State), but it is very doubtful that Arky will be a one loss team following the LSU game.

Did I read that right?
There are 9 SEC teams with harder schedules, but only 33 total teams with harder schedules? Dang.

There are 9 SEC schools that have to play LSU, Bama, and Arky.

Right.
Georgia didn’t have to play any of the four best SEC teams: LSU, Alabama, Arkansas, and Georgia.
