College Basketball Game Day Open Comment Thread
The NBA may still be in lockout mode, but college basketball is underway in Bulldog Nation tonight! Here is the schedule:
- Andy Landers' Lady Bulldogs will be in action against TCU at 6:00 Eastern tonight---in other words, right now!---on CSS and on gametracker.
- At 7:00 Eastern tonight, Michigan State and North Carolina will tip off on an aircraft carrier. What does that have to do with Georgia? Well, if you want to get all technical, the aircraft carrier in question is the U.S.S. Carl Vinson, which was named for Carl Vinson, who represented Georgia in the U.S. House of Representatives for 50 years, but did you hear me? It's on an aircraft carrier on Veterans Day! It's like the Army-Navy game; if you're not watching it, it's time to revive the House Committee on Un-American Activities just so they can investigate you. It's on an aircraft carrier, I'm telling you! (Oh, also, it's on ESPN.)
- Approximately at 8:00 Eastern tonight, Mark Fox's Hoop Hounds will tussle with Wofford, also on CSS and on gametracker.

I'm glad it coincided with something, . . .
. . . because I scheduled this to post at 5:55 p.m. Eastern, not 2:55 p.m. Eastern. Either I need to check my e-mail (probable) or I need to contact technical support.
Either way, I’m glad it worked out for the soccer fans. Have at it!

Yeah, that's not the first time that's happened today.
That’s really, really weird. I’m glad it worked out, but I set it for 5:55 p.m. Eastern (hence the “right now” regarding the Lady Bulldogs’ 6:00 p.m. Eastern tip-off). Strange.

Is there a set time when each post comes up?
Meaning, I could be reading something you wrote in 2009?
Of course, if you wrote the above in 2009, I’m impressed with your ability to tell the future, but, at the same time, disappointed in your obviously contrived “Don’t Bet On It!” pieces.

For the no people that are watching...
… the US is looking surprisingly good in the first half. They’re creating positive play in the top half of the field and playing solid defense when the Chickens have the ball.
At this point, I would say a US goal is more likely than a French goal. 10 minutes left in the first half.

I just had an epiphany about this game.
The USA is playing France on Armistice Day, but our head coach and several of our best players are German-born.
I guess that makes us the bad guys. (But shouldn’t we also have wrapped up the game in the first 5 minutes?)

not a bad game, but not a good one either. We’ve got so long to go.

I smell danger in Stegeman
We were painfully sloppy against the Delta Devils in the season opener last year.
I think I’m more intrigued by this Georgia team than hopeful, which is OK. Fox led us back to the NCAAs- you know, in a way that wasn’t fashioned in one weekend- last year, so that’s off our backs. Time to build the program.
Luckily this is a much younger, weaker Wofford team...
Than the NCAA Tourney squad from last season, or so a friend of mine from Wofford says.

I really think they should have more basketball games
on aircraft carriers. This Carrier Classic is going to be EPIC.

I thought so.
Also, I saw a stat where we didn’t have a single point from the post and Wafford has out rebounded us by 10. (Pessimism soon to kick in.)

It could
just be a mismatch in this one game. That will happen. The real tell-tale will be if it is a consistent problem. Sometimes these midmajors get freak athletes that couldn’t get in somewhere else, wanted to stay close to home, or whatever reason.
It's Wofford
the “freak athletes that could’t get in somewhere else” aren’t going to Wofford.

It was a generality.

Wofford was last year's SoCon champ.
While it’s not the SEC they were better than Davidson and CofC. I wonder how much they have lost from last year. Didn’t we go to OT with them last year?
Dick Vitale just went on about how awful college football's postseason is.
It made me want to puke.

I don't think that in basketball
it’s feasible to hold your opponent to a low number of points w/o lots of fouls. But I’m no expert, so don’t quote me on that. Just a reasonably informed guess.
