The Mark Richt Victory Watch Celebrates 100 Wins . . . and Counting!
In a game in which the Georgia Bulldogs relied heavily upon underclassmen, Mark Richt reclaimed his ownership of the SEC East series with the Tennessee Volunteers by guiding his team to a close, hard-fought win in a night game in Neyland Stadium. In the process, he also essentially reduced the "hot seat" talk to the province of message board yahoos and radio shock jocks desperate to retain their fading relevance.
It is, therefore, with great pride that I provide this historic update of the Mark Richt Victory Watch. Coach Richt earlier this evening notched his 100th win as the head coach of the Red and Black, putting him 101 triumphs behind the father of the man he defeated in Knoxville tonight.
With a 100-36 record and a .735 winning percentage, Mark Richt is tops among Georgia coaches after 136 games. With as many games under their respective belts, Wally Butts was 91-38-7 (.695) and Vince Dooley was 90-41-5 (.680).
Get used to the Mark Richt Victory Watch, Bulldog Nation. Our head coach is nearly halfway to the all-time school record, and, right now, it’s looking like a pretty good bet he’s going to get there.
Go ‘Dawgs!

I honestly could take losing out, if this indeed did happen.

Beat Vandy and UF then lose to NMSU, Auburn, UK and GT and a crappy bowl? No thanks.

love it
CTG is the difference maker this year. These threads tend to focus on Bobo, Murray, Crowell, & Co, but G-damn, this D is the real deal. 1st half. 2nd half. All game. Every game. Love the 4th down calls. Way to go Coach Richt!

Love to see them relaxed with a comfortable lead in a game like tonights
Isaiah Crowell for Heisman!!
You didnt follow the live thread then, because I praised CTG endlessly, and have since his hire.

Bobo made the right adjustments in that 3rd quarter though
and I think we’d have pit up moire if it weren’t for that astonishing offensive meltdown at the start of the 4th.
Love it
Can’t complain about wins on the road at night in Knoxville! Awesome.

Could almost call this the CMR (CTG) Victory Watch
CMR owes all these wins this year to CTG.
Bobo is a damn boat anchor.
True, and most of Vince's 201 wins could've been called . . .
. . . the Erk Russell Victory Watch, too, but they still count, and they still are a credit to the head coach who hired them.
Go 'Dawgs!
Agreed. Not taking anything away from CMR here. He hired CTG, so he deserves the credit.
Now if he’d nut up and do something about our offensive side of the ball also, without needing to take our program back into the toilet again to do so.
We're agreed there, Muckbeast, . . .
. . . although Mike Bobo had some very solid stretches of tankertoad-like play-calling tonight. We went into the “four corners” a little too early, as usual, but what killed the drive at the start of the fourth quarter were penalties, not play-calling.
Go 'Dawgs!
What the hell was up with those penalties? They finally showed replays and I still couldnt see it.
And didnt the refs have the decency at 2nd and 41 to say “Uh, ok” and give it a rest? I mean, they were trying to end football at that point.
"The ball ain't heavy." - Herschel Walker
32 years of watching football...
And I’ve never seen that, and probably never will again. I’m just glad it was Georgia that could make this happen for me.
/Slaps self in head.
Success is never final. --Winston Churchill
Yup. That’s about the same way I feel.
I’m not as annoyed tonight as I was the last 2 weeks, but its this little nagging fear I can’t shake because 8 minutes and a 2 TD lead just isn’t enough to start shutting things down.
That 3rd and 57 was a serious boner though eh? LOL.
Even a FG there would have made it 17, and 17 pts and 8 minutes I’d feel a lot better about the hyper conservative play calling.
You're right.
Three points there essentially would’ve iced the game, and, as I stood in my living room holding four fingers in the air, three points looked like a given, so it was far from perfect. Those penalties just aren’t among the many things for which Mike Bobo can be blamed, and he did call a good game a good bit of the time.
Beyond that, hey . . . our defense essentially held South Carolina to 17 points, Ole Miss to 13 points, Mississippi State to three points, and Tennessee to 12 points. That’ll win you a lot of ball games. If the offense primarily kills clock and doesn’t put the defense in a bad position, I’m basically all right with that.
Go 'Dawgs!
Our defense is once again something to love...
Our defense is seriously starting to remind me of the good old days. (And you can interpret that as 02-05 or the ’80s… take your pick).
I actually look forward to watching us on defense again, which is something I have missed for a long time.
I think its clear that our program hit the skids starting in 2006.
I don’t think its a coincidence that things went south at the same time we made two really bad coordinator hires.
We got rid of one mistake, and now we have a dominant defense.
The question is, how long will it take for Richt to get rid of the other mistake.
If we go 11-2, then I’ll happy accept the ticking timebomb that is Mike Bobo’s continued employment.
But I’d be seriously crossing my fingers and hoping some foolish college somewhere would hire him away to be a head coach. :)

Can’t sleep on Vandy they have been a thorn in our side/tough game for anyone not prepared forever.
Comin` on like a herd of turtles.
Vandy has no Offense, and our D will likely move into top 10 in the nation this week.
So, we will win 17-3 or something like that when we could win 45-3. We cant sleep on them no, but you are going to see sack central.
And I meant what I said in the live thread, I am ok with just pulling Crowell and letting him rest all the way to UF.
"The ball ain't heavy." - Herschel Walker
This
I simply don’t see them scoring on us. Our D slowed down SC and shut down everyone else (other than BSU). Vandy’s offense is not as good as UT’s.
Agree on Isaiah. Also, any official word on Mitchell?

I keep thinking of how much David Pollack did for us in this area. I have yet this season to see a DE or OLB or CB step upfield, stop, wait, contain, and then attack.
The good thing is this is very coachable, and if we ever have our LBs back we can do better.

I 100% agree, wierd flunky.
Vandy’s defense can give up the big play at times, but that’s because they’re always looking to jump a route and intercept a ball.
Given Aaron Murray’s proclivity towards throwing pick 6’s, I think there is a great danger of seeing more of them next week.

enjoying the victory, but a storm is brewing
folks, in a few short weeks Brantley will be back and UF will be starving for a big victory. Nothing will turn the wine into vinegar quicker than a loss in jax. Savor the moment tonight, but as Patton remarked, the roman conqueror on parade always had a slave whispering in his ear a warning: that all glory is fleeting.

It makes my skin crawl that Lane has a 1-0 record against us and there’s basically nothing we can do about it.
I think he’ll be fired long before we have a chance to ever meet him in a bowl game.
Agreed on all counts.
It sure would be nice to right that wrong, but it’s highly unlikely to happen.
However, if Lane Kiffin gets a job as a prison guard after getting fired as a head coach, we could arrange for Mike Bobo to commit a crime, get convicted, be sent to the prison where Lane is a guard, and set up a convicts-versus-guards football game, in which Mike could redeem the ‘Dawgs by beating Lane’s guards.

Branden Smith finally get some snaps on offense. He’s a great compliment to what Isaiah does. UT obviously didn’t expect him to be able to get outside so quickly and we got a first down out of the deal.

and i was pretty relieved to see them do that. finally proved to people that we weren’t letting the number thing keep us from using a serious weapon on offense.

A good win but.....
This was a good one, but anything short of winning the SEC will not make up for that sorry a$$ loss to BSU. i am still so bitter about that one that i can’t think straight; even after a nice win in Knoxville. Usually that would get me fired up. Perhaps it is all of the text messages that I received from my Boise brethren cheering my team on, because after that smack down that the Donkeys gave the Dawgs, they are all Georgia fans now. If Athens was in Idaho, it would be the greatest state in the nation; but it stinks to live here these days. Bobo needs to go and i need therapy. Go Dawgs.

I feel your pain, IdahoDawg.
I can’t imagine living in Idaho during this season, especially after getting so thoroughly dominated by the Broncos.
And the way the polls are now shaping up, it looks like Boise State will get just as shafted as they would have gotten if they’d never played us, so it didn’t even really help them. So it’s bad all the way around.
It was definitely a no-win game for us. It’s almost funny to see that it was kind of a no-win game for them, too.
