Dawgs Macabre: We Beat Florida!

I posted "Gator Bash" on Friday fully expecting that to be my last entry in my "Dawgs Macabre" series. However, at the end of that post, I hinted that I might do one more were the unthinkable (at least to this Negative Nellie) to occur. Somehow, we pulled off a miracle and beat Florida, so I got to write one more poem. I'm sorry if I disappointed anyone by not doing a song/poem you like; there's a lot more material out there than days in the week, and, like we usually end up saying around here (but not this year, at least in regards to Florida), there's always next year.

I decided to do this song after watching the latest impressive light show from that guy in California. It also helped that "This is Halloween!" can be reworked to say "We beat Florida!" You know the drill: the karaoke version's first, followed by the light-show/words version, and concludes with the poem.  The narrative introduction is only included in the light show/lyrics version, so read that beforehand if you're using the karaoke version.

Light show/lyrics version

We Beat Florida!

‘Twas a long time ago,

as long ago as it seems,

in a time that perhaps

you remember in dreams.

When the Bulldogs played Gators in manner most bold

and won with that brash Bulldog mojo of old.

Now you've probably partied

o'er this Jacksonville win,

But if you haven't, then here,

I'll help you begin.

DGDs of every age

celebrate victory for a change.

Come and cheer some more with us

our defeat of Florida.

We beat Florida! We beat Florida!

Jarvis sacked Brantley hard all night.

We beat Florida! There goes RS IV again.

Kick for three ‘til Blair Walsh somehow splits the uprights.

First and goal from Gator's one

sealed our victory over Florida.

I am the one chasing Brantley, who fled,

Gator orange makes me see red.

I am the one intercepting QB's throws;

every week I play makes my confidence grow.

We beat Florida! We beat Florida!

Florida near Halloween! Florida near Halloween!

For this game that we won,

everyone hail what Coach Grantham's done.

Our defense, don't we love it now?

Everybody's offense gets a big surprise.

Round that corner, men hiding in the backfield;

linemen waiting now to pounce, now we can

Scream! We beat Florida!

Red ‘n' black beat orange-uh!

Richt wasn't scared

on fourth and long,

snapped it once, snapped it twice,

took a chance and rolled the dice.

Murray didn't miss, and Richt wasn't wrong.

Give the Bulldogs love! Give the Bulldogs love!

For their defeat of Florida!

I am the lineman getting in your face,

here in the flesh and ready to embrace.

I put the "run" into "running back."

I am the pride of the Red and Black.

I am a special-teamer, slim and slight,

driving Dawgs insane with fits of fright.

We beat Florida! We beat Florida!

Florida near Halloween! Florida near Halloween!

Florida! Florida!

Georgia Dawgs o'er Florida!

Many bumblings everywhere;

football's no fun without a good scare.

Didn't need to score again

in our defeat of Florida!

Our defense!

Don't we love it now?

Everybody's offense gets a big surprise.

Coach of the D might KTMFD

and scream like a banshee

if you get up in his face.

We beat Florida! Celebrate some more with us.

Won't ya please make way for a very special guy?

Our man Grantham's King of the Bulldog D.

Everybody hail to what Grantham's done now!

We beat Florida! We beat Florida!

Florida near Halloween! Florida near Halloween!

For this game that we won,

everyone hail to what Grantham's done.

La la la la la, we beat Florida.

La la la la la, we beat Florida.

La la la la la, we beat Florida.

La la la la la, we beat Florida.

Woof!
