Around SBN: Bob Sapp Denies Throwing Fights

NOTHING CONCRETE but I have heard of other issues now with AJ Green. Nothing to do with the South Beach.

Congratulations to David Pollack for figuring out the most bloody obvious fact surrounding this situation.

I mean, if the NCAA can clear Masoli in 2 days but not A.J., it would stand to reason that there's something surrounding this situation that we haven't heard yet.

BREAKING NEWS: I HEARD A RUMOR Y'ALL.

NCAA investigation = witch hunt

and the problem with a witch hunt is once they have you in their sights, they will find something, anything to prove the conclusion they started out with.
Seems like instead of investigating objectively, they start out with the conclusion the player is guilty of a violation and then set about to prove that conclusion.

because with the ncaa rule book...

there is pretty good chance they can find a violation somewhere, if only a minor violation. they just haven’t found it yet.

The most laughable part of david’s tweets last night were when he says “I’m not saying anything else after this…” In other words, i don’t want to start any rumors, but here’s a rumor i just heard.

David should look into getting a job with TMZ. He makes Joe Schad look credible.

Its amazing to me the ease in which folks are willing to assault someone’s character with no proof or facts just to get attention.

by allyugadawgs on Sep 5, 2010 10:39 AM EDT reply actions

We agree on this.

David was, is, and always will be a DGD, but tweets like this do not help his standing. Maybe he feels like his radio job requires this kind of crap, but I don’t know anyone who’s going to tune into his radio show because they’re hoping for some scoop based on his “I’m not sayin, I’m just sayin” stuff. I understand he’s not an employee of the University, nor is he required to be a complete homer with UGA coverage, but the rumor-mongering is unnecessary and inappropriate, in my opinion.

Thank you for pointing this out, NCT.

David Pollack will always be a hero to Bulldog Nation, and rightly so. He really needs some coaching in how to do… whatever it is he’s trying to do now with this ESPN/radio/whatever thing.

by vineyarddawg on Sep 5, 2010 11:05 AM EDT up reply actions

David Pollack might want to re-consider his relative standing in Bulldog Nation and decide if being on TV is that important to him because over the last year he’s making it more and more possible that I’ll remember his in-game heroics less and less and his on-air bullshit more and more.

I’d hate to think of a world where David Pollack has gone the way of Kirby Smart via Mike Bell.

In fairness to David

I think he stepped to the plate (perhaps awkwardly) not to start or perpetuate a rumor but simply to point out the NCAA may have more on AJ than we know.

We have been focused on the South Beach investigation and blasting the NCAA (I don’t like them much either) for dragging this out. I heard the rumor within a few days after the initial investigation and kept it in the back of my mind. Hearing Adams say the lawyers are handling this really did more to substantiate the rumor than David did with his tweet.

If in fact AJ has broken a rule and UGA expects some form of punishment then perhaps sitting him in a game were he is not needed was the wise decision.

Disagree

Sorry, but i’ve followed David’s tweets since he got on twitter. This is but one of many examples. Love the guy, but he’s fast becoming the used car salesman of sports talk radio….not to be outdone by Chuck Oliver of course.

by allyugadawgs on Sep 5, 2010 2:53 PM EDT up reply actions

You may be right

I based my opinion on what was said here. I have never heard him and don’t tweet – twitter or do facebook.

However the facts (Adams / Lawyers) would suggest he is more correct than those that simply blame the NCAA.

Not sure the lawyers mean much

I wouldn’t be surprised if there is more than just the South Beach thing. I mean, you can get in trouble for “agent contact” which, assuming someone invited AJ to this thing, there was agent contact at some point. I believe AJ and think he’ll be back this week, but I can see why an investigation would take a little while given the scope of this controversy.

That said, I think lawyers coming in doesn’t tell us much. Georgia might bring the lawyers in just so they can play “bad cop” and hassle/hound/yell at the NCAA. I can’t imagine you want Adams or McGarity really being the ones potentially burning bridges or upsetting the NCAA. It’s better to let the lawyers annoy and press the NCAA.

by WindyCityDawg on Sep 6, 2010 1:53 PM EDT up reply actions

Maybe so

My issue isn’t whether David’s sources are correct. Maybe they are, who knows? It’s the TMZ style way he goes about rumor mongering these days. And It doesn’t take a genius to figure out there’s something more going on here than a South Beach Party AJ & his family have already proven beyond a shadow of a doubt he did not attend. For the record, if what i’ve heard all weekend is true, i won’t be sad if AJ is kicked off the team, frankly.

Just wondering...

“For the record, if what i’ve heard all weekend is true, i won’t be sad if AJ is kicked off the team, frankly.”

Do you not think statements like that are just as toxic as what Pollack is doing?

by DawgGirl32 on Sep 7, 2010 9:20 AM EDT up reply actions

One would have to assume that it's at least non-criminal in nature...

… because if it were (and it were as serious as the NCAA is apparently taking it), the ACCPD would have had A.J. locked away in solitary confinement for the past couple of months.

It’s probably something silly and stupid like spreading the word about an agent-funded party or having an agent take him to Reno and buy him a few hours at the Bunny Ranch (which is legal there).

by vineyarddawg on Sep 7, 2010 1:59 PM EDT up reply actions

Seriously?

Sweetie, minor detail you may want to consider…..i’m not a reporter a sports takl host or journalist. HUGE difference.

And that goes ditto for you too “Zoltar.”

When I first saw your comment,

it left me wondering if you had heard something the rest of us had not. My second thought was that was good heavens what could she have heard about AJ that would be so heinous as to warrant his removal from the team? Finally, I recalled your previous statements defending member(s) of the football team against anyone making disparaging comments about their on-field efforts and I was even more surprised.
Now that we all have the NCAA’s statement on AJ – is this what you heard over the weekend or is there something more? If it is what you heard, then I’m a bit perplexed as to why this action warrants removal from the team in your eyes. If it is not what you heard, please explain further.
The problem with making a comment of this nature is that it leaves the readers with the impression that you have some information that a person who by all previous accounts has been a young man of great character has committed an offense of the level and/or heinous nature of Mettenberger’s actions.
That aside, comments posted on the internet, in a public forum such as this have been known to at least contribute to if not start rumors.
Zoltar simply asked what you meant by your comment, he didn’t accuse you of anything.
I’m not trying to be critical of your comments, I’m genuinely interested to know the answers to my questions.

Those focused on South Beach were just wrong...

that was answered almost immediately in the negative. The only reason there could still be a problem then was automatically something other than South Beach. We’ve never been told what (although now it seems some jersey selling question has arisen), but it obviously wasn’t some party in Florida.

by Mr. Sanchez on Sep 7, 2010 10:44 AM EDT up reply actions

So now we find out about this egregious eligibility-threatening error.

Chuck Oliver from 680AM in Atlanta says that A.J. sold a jersey on e-bay, but paid back the proceeds.

Forgive me for not getting all up in arms (at A.J., not the stupid idiot NCAA).

by vineyarddawg on Sep 7, 2010 5:50 PM EDT reply actions

I think the NCAA needs to

rethink some of their rules.

If a kid on academic scholarship sold something on ebay (with perceived value stemming from his accomplishment at or through school) would someone come knocking on his / her door? Would he / she be in jeopardy of losing his / her scholarship?

I’d feel the same way if it was Nesbit.
