AP Voters Rank Ralphie Ahead of Uga in Mascot Poll
I saw Ralphie in Athens in 2006, and, although I had looked forward to seeing a live buffalo between the hedges, I remember thinking she (yes, Ralphie is a girl, just like Spuds McKenzie) was a huge letdown.
Uga is way cooler than Ralphie, as the Sports Illustrated cover established nearly 15 years ago. Also, as vineyarddawg pointed out, that lunge at the Auburn player in 1996 would have been a good deal uglier if it had been Ralphie on that leash.

I submit for your consideration: Traveler
I know I’m a little bias, but I think this mascot should rank in the top 10.

So, tell me...
… tell me how Traveler is any different than Bullet?

Both are famous and are widely associated with their respective universities. Neither is, however, a mascot. The mascot for both Southern Cal and The Oklahoma State University is the person riding on top of the horse, not the horse itself. (The would be the Trojan for SC and the Cowboy/girl for OSU.)
I suspect that’s why Texas Tech was included, since they specifically pointed out that it was the masked rider, not the horse, they were singling out (i.e. the “Red Raider”).

Traveler is the Mascot
Traveler is the official mascot. Before Traveler the unofficial mascot was George Tirebiter, a car chasing dog. As to your question; the difference is left to the perception of the beholder. A bit of SC trivia; like Uga George had a pension for biting opposing team mascots. Including the fUCLA b’ruin.
Also for the record, I think Uga is an Iconic mascot and deserves the recognition.

Thanks.
Hey, we’re Southerners; we have a fondness for military men who ride horses named Traveller!
