Mark Richt Appointed to AFCA Board
This doesn't exactly qualify as earth-shaking news, but I thought it deserved a mention that Mark Richt has been named to the American Football Coaches Association Board of Trustees, where he will serve alongside the likes of Texas's Mack Brown, TCU's Gary Patterson, and Ohio State's Jim Tressel.
Gee, I wonder if those guys are on the hot seat, too?

No...
….but they haven’t been taken to the woodshed the last 2 years by the likes of UT last year, UF and Bama. It would be advisable to not lose in JAX this year, or at least not in a similar fashion to the last 2 years. Florida is young, precisely as they were in 2007…if we lose this year, we might as well kiss the next 3 goodbye as well. If we endure another 4x-1x score in Jacksonville, I don’t think Richt survives, no matter what he has done up to this point because it will cement us as the second tier eastern team for the forseeable future.
Thanks, rxmaster.
I almost got away with a moment of levity there.

The 3rd vice president of the organization is Rich Rodriguez
The man is definitely on the real hot seat and I’m not sure what his inclusion means about the group given his propensity for bending the rules.
Nonetheless, I can’t imagine a better coach to represent district 4 (SEC) than Coach Richt.

Fair point.
When was Rich Rodriguez appointed, though? I ask that because I’m intrigued by the timing; I doubt seriously whether the AFCA would offer a post to a guy they thought was likely to be canned before his term on the board expired.

Good question....
Research Time!!!!

Well that was easy.
RichRod has apparently been a trustee since his WVU days (most recent info I could find was 2006 — when the 3rd Vice President was, interestingly enough, Tyrone Willingham). My understanding from the readings is that the AFCA chooses its officers on an annual basis — they certainly do with the president. So though Rodriguez was a part of the group and may have even been an officer prior to the MIchigan tomfoolery/hotseatery, he earned/maintained his officer status this year.

Its also worth noting that RichRod is dancing dangerously close to the line concerning the by-laws related to officers:
Section 2. Eligibility: To be eligible as an officer, a member must be in good standing of the organization. Good standing shall be defined as not under probation, suspension, or expulsion (cancellation) of this organization. Also, the coach cannot be responsible for his present institution or prior institution of employment being placed on football probation by the NCAA, NAIA, or conference that deprives that school of post-season game participation and/or television appearances because of activities directly or indirectly attributable to this coach or to persons under his supervision or control.
And after reading the by-laws more closely, they are all elected on an annual basis.

HELP: Unrelated
Hey, there is a guy that runs a UGA website that is remarkably good at predicting which games will be televised and when. PWD usually posts updates about this stuff but he is apparently only covering hoops with any zeal these days. Does anyone know the site or can provide a link?
Thanks.
I'm pretty sure it's "Jim From Duluth."
To my knowledge, he doesn’t have a website, but he regularly posts at one of the Georgia message boards. I’m pretty sure it’s not the DawgVent.
