Prediction Time: How Good a Season Will the Georgia Bulldogs Have in 2010?
August has arrived. Fall practice is upon us. In a month, it will be football season. In short, it is time to start thinking seriously about this stuff.
With all due apologies to Senator Blutarsky, I'd like to get a bit more specific. What sort of a season is in store for the Georgia Bulldogs? Let me know by voting in the poll below and continuing the conversation in the comments.
Go 'Dawgs!

I'm torn
somewhere between 8-5 & 10-2, it really really depends on how quickly we gel.
"Never refuse to do a kindness unless the act would work great injury to yourself, and never refuse to take a drink- under any circumstances." Mark Twain
I voted 10-2, however
I don’t think one of the two is Florida. Not that Florida isn’t good and not that they don’t have highly rated talent, we all know they do have both. However, they have to deal with a lot of changes just like we do. It seems to me that they have more changes (no Tebow, new D coordinator, several other playmakers being gone). We have a new D coordinator, but hopefully that’s a + for us as opposed to the – that it seems it would be for UF. I think by the time we get to that game, both teams will be better but I think UGA has the more experienced players to get the job done. Still a very close game and it probably comes down to Blair Walsh at the end of the game, but a Dawg day afternoon in Jax is my prediction.
12-0
As a bulldog fan everyone should select 12-0, no matter what! You should go into everygame thinking, knowing, and believing that you are going to win! As an American, do you say “we we arnt that good this year, so we may loose a war.” No you dont, you believe we are the best and will always win. So you should act and do the same with bulldog footbal!
I don't completely disagree with you.....
however the reality of college football these days say that it is VERY hard to go undefeated especially in the SEC (which makes what Bama has done over the course of the last two seasons even more impressive). I believe that the Dawgs have a chance to win every game but the game of football is one of inches (and 18-22 year old kids) so you can’t account for the bad calls, turnovers, weather, or just a plain flat team (we have seen that MO a few times over the past few seasons). I feel like the Dawgs will beat UF this year, so my 10-2 prediction has us losing to the Chickens or the Pigs at the beginning of the year and the Aubies at the end (they are due). I hope I am wrong and 11-1 or 12-0 would be great I just think its a big ask for a new Defensive scheme and a RFr QB who has never taken a collegiate snap.
7 votes right now for 12-0.
Really? Well, I’ve already weighed in on the matter, but for the sake of this poll, I voted 7-5. I sure hope I’m wrong, and sbm10 is right, though.
8-4
Georgia will go 8-4. They will win the opener against La-Lafayette, then lose at South Carolina, lose at home to Arkansas, and then go on a five game winning streak against Miss State on the road, Colorado on the road, Tennessee at home, Vandy at home, and Kentucky on the road. Then a loss to Florida, a win against Idaho State, a loss to Auburn on the road, and a win against Ga tech at home. I hope I’m wrong and that they do better.
If I had to put cash money on how 2010 will unfold . . .
. . . that is exactly the season I would predict (although, as crazy as this sounds, it wouldn’t altogether shock me if we lost to Tennessee and beat Florida).
Go 'Dawgs!
Sorry, you lost me at
“lose at home to Arkansas.”
The man-love for Arkansas this offseason is ridiculous. Ryan Mallett may well be able to throw for 400+ yards, but he’s going to have to do that every game with the defense and running game that Arkansas has for them to be legit.
They won’t, of course, and by week 9 we’ll all be making fun of the off-season pundits for predicting that Arkansas would make a run, just like we did last year with Ole Miss.
There's no question that the Hogs will be this year's Rebels.
There is, however, considerable doubt about how far along our defense will be in week three.
What worries me most about the South Carolina and Arkansas games is their location on the schedule. In November, I’m confident we could take ’em. In September, not so much.
Go 'Dawgs!
It's also worth noting...
… that Arkansas has two home games, vs. Tennessee Tech and UL-Monroe, before they travel to play the Dawgs. Georgia will have just come off a tough SEC road game (and possibly/probably a loss), and the Hogs will be well-rested.
That, plus the inexperience on the UGA defense, tilts the scales in the Razorbacks favor, I think.
We're gonna roll Arkansas
Justin Houston will sack Ryan Mallett 7 times…before the half. Besides, it’s a noon start so that means those Central Time Zone boys’ body clocks will be playing in the A.M.
Now, if you’ll excuse me I must finish that keg o’ kool-aid I been sippin’ on.

Need to do more research.....
The Razorbacks are going to surprise you. Why don’t you check out our 4 really good running backs that are returning this year……and our defense has returned several starters…..plus, they practice against the #1 offense in the SEC……I wouldn’t talk so low about the Razorbacks…..we will beat Georgia……GO HOGS!

Nothing Wrong With Realism
Maybe it’s just a reflection of Munson’s and Dooley’s influence, but I think realism bordering on pessimism is an authentic Dawg tradition. That’s not to say that fans are down on the program; realism means, as we’ve learned this offeason, that many true Dawg fans didn’t buy into the 2008 number 1 hype, and thus aren’t all that frantic about the disappointments of the last two years.
I’m actually pretty upbeat about the ‘10 Dawgs, but like the Mayor, I’m very concerned about the early schedule. The USC game, in particular, looks like a real uphill slog: The Defining Game for the Spurrier Era, in Columbia, against a very good defense, and a QB who last year had a career game in Athens. The only intangible in our favor, and I have no idea whether it will matter, is Coach Lakatos’ involvement in the throttling of Steven Garcia at the very end of last season.
Yes, this could be the best oppportunity we’ll have to beat the Gators, but actually beating the Gators is another thing altogether. Some will compare this year’s game to 2007, but in all honesty, I’m not sure we would have won that one had not Tebow been playing hurt.
And an acending Auburn team is way overdue against the Dawgs.
If we lose to USC, Florida and Auburn, I won’t be surprised or disappointed. I will be surprised and disappointed if we somehow lose again to Tennessee, or to Tech; and I don’t think we should lose to Arkansas at home (Mallet was dreadful on the road last year, and as Blutarsky points out, our offense should be at least as good against the Hogs as it was last year).
So 9-3 strikes me as realistic, and a good enough year, particularly if we can get to double-digit wins in a January bowl. Anything more is gravy, and if we can beat Florida, then the SEC title game is not only possible but probable.
