Source Confirms That A.J. Green Was Not at South Beach Party
As we routinely emphasize around these parts, MaconDawg and I are not journalists, nor do we play them on the internet. However, even outsiders like us occasionally know folks who know stuff, and I am fortunate enough to be acquainted with a relative of A.J. Green's, to whom I placed a call this morning.
The relative confirmed for me this morning that A.J. was in attendance at a family function in Summerville, S.C., on Memorial Day weekend. Relax, Bulldog Nation; A.J. is telling the truth. Our best skill player wasn't at the infamous party in South Beach. He was home with his family, being the fine young man we know him to be, both on and off the field.

The AJ news was David Hale’s parting gift to Bulldog fans. Now that he’s gone AJ is confirmed to have been in South Carolina.
I’ll miss David’s amazing coverage of UGA. I won’t miss his bad mojo.

And now...
back to your regularly scheduled schadenfreude…but use extreme caution. July ain’t over yet and the weekend is nigh….

Wait a minute...
it was on TMZ, right? And you mean to tell me it wasn’t true?

FYI
Marcel Dareus was not in South Beach for the party that weekend either. He was in SB the 2 weeks before around the 15th. Apparently Marvin Austin was camped out there for like 3 weeks or weekends. So even if AJ Green was not there on the night of the party in question, he may be being questioned about another week earlier in the month if he traveled to see Austin.

If in fact Austin was camped out in South Beach for 3 weeks on an agent's dime . . .
I think it’s safe to say he is officially toast. Because there’s “accepting benefits”, which is bad enough, and “literally being on the payroll of an agent to the point that the IT folks set you up with your own company email account and tab at the cafeteria.” 3 weeks in Miami sounds a lot like the latter rather than the former.
For what its worth....
AJ at SEC Media Days says he’s “never” been to Miami.

Unless we saw different interviews
When asked if he had ever been to Miami, AJ responded with “no comment”.
Actually, he said both . . .
. . . according to Chris Low:
We can’t make any comments about it, but I’ve never even been to Miami.

It wasnt during the interview
He said no comment then. It was when they arrived this morning. Its on the AjC UGA Blog.

That's what I figured.
I wish he would’ve just said “no” during the press conference but either way it isn’t a big deal.

So you're insinuating
that A.J. Green was possibly in Miami Beach possibly 2 or 3 weeks prior to “The Party” in question? Not possible. We all know that A.J. was on the grassy knoll 2 or 3 weeks prior.

Pictures?
Surely the Green family has pictures from the gathering in Summerville over Memorial Day weekend. I think a number of pictures with A.J. in them would be pretty hard to deny.
totally surprised

toad-ally surprised.

Not to rain on the parade...
But if the relative in question thought it could adversely affect AJ’s eligibility, do you think they would tell the truth? I don’t believe AJ was there, but there is too much in wrapped up in this to just take a relative’s word. Do they have any hard proof that they will be able to show the NCAA???
Fair question.
I believe there are two reasons why the relative with whom I spoke was telling the truth. First of all, this is someone I know and our initial conversation was off the record; it wasn’t until the end that I asked permission to use what I was told, and the person with whom I spoke knows me well enough to know that I can be trusted to keep in confidence what I am told in confidence. Secondly, it would have been easy enough for the relative in question to have said, “I don’t know” or, “A.J. told me he wasn’t at the party.” My question could have been deflected without an unequivocal answer either way.

AJ Green
Kyle,
Would it not be easy to show cell phone records indicating what cell towers his calls bounced off on Memorial Day Weekend?
oddly enough,
i found it wasn’t as easy as one would think. I once called to try to get this information on a phone I pay for and they refused to provide me with the data without a signed search warrant.

Fair enough . . .
. . . but the player from Alabama indicated that he flew down, and it’s a pretty far drive from Athens to Miami. It ought to be easy enough to determine whether A.J. got on a plane, and (as a previous commenter mentioned), if he was at a family gathering, he probably showed up in some photos.

David Pollak on ESPN:
said Green told him he’d never been to Miami, but Pollak said there may be investigations into other stuff with Green and with some of the freshman and something that may have happened involving some pictures taken on the field last weekend.
anyone know anything about this?

Yep - AJC reported on it
and boy is it ridiculous.
Media were present at Dawg Night.
Recruits committed to UGA at Dawg Night
A recruit and a coach were standing together so said recruits mother could take a picture (they think it was the recruits mom.)
AJC reporter was present, snapped a picture.
Will find the link later – still at work.

NCAA violations at Dawg Night?

This is actually closer to the situation at Tennessee . . .
. . . when (if memory serves) there happened to be a reporter present when a recruit got a picture taken with Pat Summitt. (I may not have the facts exactly straight, but it was something along those lines, and was equally innocuous.)
It’s a secondary violation, we’ll self-report it, and it will be no big deal.
That’s not to say there aren’t potential problems out there, but Dawg Night isn’t one of them.

latest info on dareus says he may have stayed with family in the area rather than the hotel Marvin Austin had reserved. Definitely good news on our front. I hope to see Dareus and Green lining up against each other this december :)

I think one of us is pretty likely to see his team in Atlanta on the first weekend in December.
