Has Bobby Johnson Resigned as the Vanderbilt Head Coach?
There is nothing even vaguely approaching confirmation on this, so take this with several grains of salt and a stick of butter, but, honestly, would anything surprise you at this point in the wackiest offseason ever?
If it's true, I just hope they don't try to hire Warren Belin back.

Evidently, Vanderbilt has . . .
. . . scheduled a 1:00 p.m. press conference. Whatever’s happening, it’s happening in a hurry.
Go 'Dawgs!
By the way . . .
. . . that’s 1:00 p.m. central.

Wow i guess the offense really is that bad
Waving the white flag before the season starts…interested in hearing the reasoning for why and why now.
In all seriousness i hate to see him leave he was a great man and a great football coach. Sad to see him go.
Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win.

I would make a comment about him unresigning tomorrow
But he doesn’t strike me as that kind of guy.

This really is the sort of thing . . .
that usually only results from grave illness, or a la Edwin Edwards, photographs taken with a live boy or a dead girl. Either way it can’t be good. Given Johnson’s general behavior, demeanor and reputation, one has to believe it could be health-related. I just don’t see him as a latter day Mike Price.
This also officially scuttles that post I worked on last night about how Media Days were going to be really boring this year.
Same here...
scandal just doesn’t seem like something he’d be involved in, so that leaves health. In that case, we wish him or his loved one the best.
Just a side note
less than a month ago we’d have said the same thing about Damon Evans.
"Never refuse to do a kindness unless the act would work great injury to yourself, and never refuse to take a drink- under any circumstances." Mark Twain
Perhaps to those outside the area...
which may be the case with me and Johnson. But Evans’ propensity for other woman and alcohol wasn’t exactly unknown around town.
Currently waiting for the . . .
2 p.m. press conference to start. The background has the corporate logos of Dollar General and Pringles. Somehow I figured Vanderbilt football was sponsored by Goldman Sachs and Genzyme.
Assistant Head Coach . . .
Robbie Caldwell is elevated to Interim Head Coach. Johnson says he is retiring for “personal reasons” and emphasizes the fact that he’s retiring from college football, not resigning.
so he'll do administration at Vandy
AD maybe?

I note that he emphatically denied that his retirement
was health-related. I suppose it’s possible that he just had an epiphany and realized he didn’t need to go into the season half-heartedly. Definitely unusual timing for such an announcement.
Tony Barnhart said it best, IMO.
Bobby Johnson sounded like a man who finally decided that it was better to leave a year too early rather than a year too late.
He tweeted that during the press conference.

Definitely leaves Vandy in a lurch
Though if his successor/interim coach can win one SEC game he’ll be a hero.
