Women's College World Series Open Comment Thread (Game Two): Georgia Bulldogs v. Tennessee Volunteers

I don't know about you, but I had to down an extra cup of coffee this morning as atonement for staying up until the end of last night's thrilling softball victory over Washington. The triumph earned the Bulldogs the right to face conference nemesis Tennessee in the winner's bracket tonight.

The Georgia faithful managed to cram more than 270 comments into last night's open thread. Let's keep up the good work tonight as we cheer on the Red and Black.

Go 'Dawgs!

Go Dawgs!

Beat that team that is slightly less of a rival for Georgia than Clemson!

I don't get it

Why do the loser bracket teams get an extra day of rest?

And Vineyard, if we lose to Tennessee tonight, the Viles officially trump Climpscum in the rival dept for me.

by allyugadawgs on Jun 4, 2010 9:28 PM EDT reply actions

extra day of rest

I think it’s because a) tonight’s games will send two more teams to the loser’s bracket, and b) the teams that keep winning get a day of rest later in the tourney, on Saturday.

It does sort of suck for the teams that lose today, though. Here’s hoping that’s not us.

Go Dawgs!

by katdawg on Jun 4, 2010 9:34 PM EDT up reply actions

The losers play their first games on Saturday...

… but then the winners of that first loser-bracket game have to play a second game that day against the losers of tonight’s games.

So the losers’ bracket teams get a day of rest today, but the winners’ bracket teams get the day of rest on Saturday, where it’s more likely to make a difference going into the elimination game(s) the next day.

At least, that’s how it appears to me.

Illegal Pitches

Where was all this outrage last year when Dawgs’ Christie Hamilton was pounded at the wcws last year?

Here’s to no IP calls on McCloud, Erin or Owen tonight!

Whoa.

It looks like I arrived just in time.

I’m not going to lie to you . . . after staying up ‘til the end of last night’s game, I conked out tonight while putting the kids to bed.

I only just woke up, so I’m warning you: I’ll stick this one out as long as I can, but don’t be surprised if I fade before this one is in the books.

As long as tankertoad doesn't show up...

I blame tankertoad for everything.

He needs to account for his whereabouts on the day of each and every Georgia sporting event since the 2008 Sugar Bowl.

Now to be fair to TT

In my experience, the threes are more "terrible" than the twos . . .

. . . but kids have the energy we lack. Maybe they sap it from us, but they’re up and raring to go at hours too early to type in mixed company.

They’re great, though.

I really like my son now (and love him unconditionally of course) cause he is starting to like all the things I like and he is generally exceptionally well behaved. I’m just not sure I have the energy to do it again.
