Gamecocks Win College World Series
South Carolina swept UCLA in the College World Series finals to claim the NCAA baseball title in Omaha. The Gamecocks join Georgia and LSU as the only SEC teams to win the national championship in baseball.
I congratulate the Palmetto State Poultry on their achievement, which caps off a successful regular season, a comeback in Rosenblatt Stadium to overcome in-state rival Clemson, and a stellar pitching performance in the two games of the final series.

Thanks for the kind words, Kyle. Very classy of you.
We can resume our congenially prickly ways when football season begins.

Yes, Congratulations are indeed in order!
I pull for SEC teams as a matter of course but varying degrees of engagement. However, as I watched last night, I became really frosted at the tone of the ESPiN announcers which was basically treating the Gamecocks as if they were annoying interlopers in UCLA’s magic carpet ride. It was obvious that they had drawn up their own little pet storyline about the Bruins winning a National Title in the one major sport where they HAVEN’T, I suppose in memory of their late departed HC of 30 years ago. I am so glad that the ’Cocks refused to cooperate with this garbage. Congratulations again for doing the SEC proud with a tenacious win and the NC Title.
Really good point, because as I watched that game,
they sure made it sound as if the first win had to be a mistake, and that UCLA was going to take over from there. Almost no background on SC that I saw.
And a fabulous game, so congrats to our SEC partners….
If The State got this excited about going .500...

I have to believe the news room looks like this today:

"I want anything wearing red and black to tear the head off anything that isn't."

That advertisement...
… is all you ever need to know about South Carolina Gamecocks athletics.

i mean, i could be proud of them for their accomplishment - but didnt the advertisers see that that is somewhat negative?

then again - WE didnt accomplish that feat this year...lol

It is a silly thing to get too proud of...
But—without actually checking—I’m thinking that fewer programs than you think accomplish this regularly.

I think it seems odd to us
Because a major newspaper supporting the local team is unheard of in these parts.

True....
but the phrase “This is the first time the feat has been achieved” does sort of stick out.

its like - seriously, I could support an SEC win and the gamecocks - except, they have to get all gamecock on me and then i cant anymore
i dont know how SC, Auburn, UT and Florida do it, but they really have a way with killing mutual support.
Bama fans live in an alternate reality at times – but they don’t shoot themselves in the face on a regular basis.

Gamecock win big
vindexdawg, totally agree with you on the espn announcers slanted leanings. It appeared to pain them whenever SC pitchers "turned the ucla hitters water off, time and time again. It was if the procession of events “was not supposed to be happening!” That the premier MLB drafted pitchers from ucla should and would eventually prevail. Repeated comments about the “non overpowering” USC pitchers. Have they no knowledge of other "non overpowering MLB pitchers like Greg Maddox and Tom Glavine, for example. Also, did you notice that espn did not run replays of the championship but only a ticker line below their feature stories indicating the result of the gamel More SEC lack of respect from espn.
Congrats. to the gamecocks for their baseball year. But_______, hope you feel the pain after our UGA—USC game this fall! Go DAWGGGGGGS!
