Yeah, I made the same point in both comment threads last night:

Two years ago, an SEC East team won the first game of the College World Series finals over a team from California. A Gamecock collapse might reverse two years of Bulldog misery, a la replaying the game in “The Best of Times.”

Then again, South Carolina was much the better team last night. It would take quite a letdown for the ’Cocks to lose the next two . . . or even to lose the next one. I am bracing for the worst. Make sure you have plenty of canned goods in your bomb shelter, gentlemen.

Georgia was the better team two years ago too, what with Beckham and Fields, etc. If I remember right, Fresno was either a 3 or 4 seed in their opening regional.

I think the question we need to ask ourselves is . . .

how will this be spun on Sakerlina message boards as proof that South Carolina will win the SEC East in football this season? Because (much to the chagrin of the ever reasonable Gamecock fans who frequent this site) it’s going to happen, and the logic required will make the South Park underpants gnomes look like Sherlock Holmes.
