I don't really want to take sides . . .
. . . But I’m on your side.
Leaving insightful football commentary and analysis to other people since 2006.
O.K. Who the hell are you...
and what have you done with my friend Tankertoad?

You guys are scaring me.
First Kyle… and now you, tankertoad?
I was thinking about taking a slightly more optimistic turn… but now, I realize that I’m going to have to stick it out as the last bastion of unrepentant pessimism around here.
I was thinking
right along those same lines. But to be fair, it’s late in June and I typically start to see the glass half full about this time of year….

I think what I am going to do is break it down into small pieces
I am no TKK or Vineyarddawg or MaconDawg – I can only write in short, simple sentences. So, every so often I am going to drop in a few tidbits of why we can be optimistic and hopeful and give DawgSports readers a chance to weigh in with the pros and cons. I have a little laundry list of things positive – as well as some disagreements as to why people are nervous when they don’t need to be.
And for the record – I absolutely hated the last two seasons. 2008 with no team leadership throw the bomb Stafford I am all about going Pro followed by the absolute worst defense and play calling in 2009 under CMR, if you look back at my posts, it wasn’t pessimism, it was reality. Look back – we could, before every game in 2009, predict a large turnover margin, 2 INTs, 2 or more PFs, 2 or more PIs and a playbook that went “bomb, dive, screen”. Last year was so messed up our PUNTER (who happened to be the best player on the team – I said this last year, I say it again, how on earth is the punter the best player on your team), anyhow, it was so messed up our PUNTER GOT A PF. How the hell does a punter get a PF? Like I said last year – maybe he felt left out.
And yet, we still won a bunch of games and destroyed A&M in a bowl. It only gets better – and I am going to help motivate you as to how and why.

With all due respect to Drew Butler, who is awesome, AJ Green was unquestionably our best player last year.

I promise to be optimistic until halftime of the Tennessee game

I promise not to be optimistic until the end of the Florida game . . .
. . . at the absolute earliest. If we’re 9-0 coming back from Jacksonville, I’ll begin to think about being optimistic, although I’ll probably opt against it even then.
By the way, I think there’s about a 0.000000001 per cent chance of us being 9-0 after Florida. I also think there’s about a 40 per cent chance of us being 2-0 after South Carolina and no more than a 30 per cent chance of us being 3-0 after Arkansas.
Honestly, even those odds probably are a bit rosy. We’ll know in a hurry whether any optimism is even remotely justified.
Go 'Dawgs!
If we're 9-0 coming back from Jacksonville ...
I suspect your pessimism will take a week off at most the commence a steep crescendo to carry us through the Auburn and Tech games.
We can only hope so!
Because if we do topple Florida this year and go 9-0… I just might have to stop being pessimistic, too.
For the record, though, I think we’re starting the season 2-2.
