At the ballpark...
… And the Dawgs are wearing a “Johnny Cash” all-black uniform. I predict this blackout will not end well. (Especially since it’s almost as hot today as it was yesterday.)

Can you delete my first two posts?

Done . . .
. . . although I saw there were four new comments and I thought, “Hey! We’re off to a great start!”

I agree about the all-black uniforms.
When you win game one 7-0, you wash those uniforms and wear ’em again. Heck, maybe you wear ’em again without washing ’em!
This team obviously doesn’t need the fake juice of gimmicky uniforms to play well; why not dance with what brung ya . . . particularly when (as you suggest) the changed color scheme is incompatible with the prevailing weather conditions?

Regarding the all-black uniforms:
Could it be because we’re the “road” team?

We are the road team for game 2...
… But the normal road jersey is red, with white or silver britches. I know they have lots of alternatives, but I like the classic arrangement.

Thanks . . .
. . . and I agree, both aesthetically and practically.

The crowd is a lot more lively today, too.
Yesterday, it seemed like a lot of people were like me… Mostly looking for a way to knock off work early at the start of a holiday weekend. Today, though, there’s a lot more active cheering and general noise-making.
Like giving the ref a hard time for balls & strikes calls… a home crowd HAS to do that, and it didn’t happen yesterday. They’re out in full force today, though

Megan Wiggins hits grand slam in top of second inning.
Georgia now up 5-1. Bulldogs still batting.
Go 'Dawgs!
And it was a thing of beauty!
Cal let that foul ball drop, which would normally be the right move, but not with Wiggins on deck.
Go Girls Go
El Salami Grande!
Megan Wiggins hit a long foul ball with the bases loaded, and the Cal outfielder let it drop because a runner would have tagged and scored. On the next pitch, Wiggins hit a grand slam.
Bet that Cal player wishes she’d have caught it now!

Bulldogs go three up and three down in top of third.
Georgia still leads 2-1 in hits and 5-1 in runs.

Great play in the outfield by Wiggins!
So far, it’s pretty clear who the player of the game is.

Make that the player of the series so far.
Wiggins had a home run in the first inning of game 1 and made another great catch on a foul ball where she had to crash hard into the wall. She’s on fire.
I thought Cal came out looking much more confident today, but the Dawgs have really imposed their will on this game.

The Bears are looking deflated.
There’s a lot of softball yet to be played, but Cal isn’t looking motivated.

The wheels are officially coming off for the Bears.
They have to score in their next 6 outs or the game is mercy-ruled.

Sorry . . . I was away for a while dealing with a daughter who did not want to take a nap.
Georgia up 10-1. Looking good for the home (literal, if not nominal) team.

Still 10-1 after four innings.
Bulldogs coming back up to bat after getting out of a bases-loaded jam.
Go 'Dawgs!
Sorry I keep stepping on your posts!
I guess we’re both typing our updates at the same time.
I really hate to stop being pessimistic too early, but it looks like a good day to be a Dawg!

Dawgs did good to get out of a jam
The Bears had the bases loaded with 1 out, and Georgia got a ground out and a great catch of a line drive down the first base line to get out of the inning.
We have to maintain an 8 or more run lead for 3 more outs…

Thanks for clarifying the run rule.
Bases loaded with two outs away in the bottom of the fifth.

Georgia to face Washington in Oklahoma City.
The Bulldogs looked pretty solid at home against Cal, but can they continue their run against another quality Pac-10 club at a neutral site?
Thanks to everyone who came out for the open comment thread today. Next stop . . . the Women’s College World Series!
