Sarah McCloud pitched a complete game in Friday’s opening outing of the Bulldogs’ NCAA super regional against California, surrendering four hits in a shutout victory over the Bears.

Taylor Schlopy drew a leadoff walk in the bottom of the first frame, enabling Alisa Goler to score two with a home run to center field. A subsequent Kristyn Sandberg double and a Cal throwing error tacked on an unearned run. Georgia plated a pair of runs in the fifth on a leadoff walk by Goler and a two-run shot by Sandberg.

The scoring ended in the sixth stanza, which Laura Trout began with a double. After a sacrifice bunt moved the Red and Black shortstop to third, Schlopy was plunked and stole second. Megan Wiggins brought both baserunners home with a single.

The second game of the best-of-three series will begin at noon on Saturday and will air on ESPN. With one win tomorrow, Georgia would advance to a second straight Women’s College World Series.
