Overated!
He wasn’t good enough to play on North Avenue!!
(gnashes nerd teeth)
Of course I am thrilled about this commitment . . .
because he had an offer from Tech and I’m obsessed with them. Sure, he was also being recruited by Texas, Alabama, North Carolina and others, but who cares? Paul Hewitt’s regime is after all the gold standard.
To be honest...
he probably would have ended up with Hewitt if it weren’t for that stupid ACC rule on “transfers”. I’ll take it though, cause he probably becomes a much better player here than he would have become under whoever replaces PH in a year or two.
fwiw...
Thornton was asked about that, and said that did not factor into his decision. He said his parents told him to choose where he wanted to play, and they’d see to it that things were worked out. UGA was his choice. Credit Mark Fox with this signing, not the ACC rule on transfers.

Well
We’re starting to see some of that dividend from the Fox hire. Let’s see him turn this into a really good product next season, and we might have the beginnings of that real turn around in Athens.
Great job on the get, Coach Fox!
We started seeing the dividend last season...
when he had a team that was absolutely horrid a year before playing extremely competitive, and essentially some good G depth from going dancing.
Since we rarely get to rub things in when it comes to basketball.....
I’d just like to say that this would be the perfect time for:

OH OH OH OH OH….OH OH OH OH Oh Oh OH OH OH OH Oh OH!
Now I promise I will never do that again.
Great now i have that stuck in my head and i didn't even have to hear the song
Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win.

Glad I could do my part...
I’ve now seen what its like to be an ACC fan… And I don’t like what I saw. Kinda made me wanna puke.

On the one hand, I think including that song in the comments . . .
. . . was worse than whatever it was that italicized everything in the other comment thread recently.
On the other hand, you gave me something negative to think about, which distracted me from having positive thoughts about the Marcus Thornton news.
This is a good thing, because we all know the Bulldogs only have hope when I have no hope for the Bulldogs. Only when I feel bad will good things happen.
You’re a fine American, RedCrake.

Gotta say...
I haven’t been this excited about Georgia Basketball since I was in high school when Georgia hired Hugh Durham who, after the ’79 season, promptly signed Dominque Wilkins, Terry Fair, Lamar Heard and eventually Vern “knuckleball shot” Fleming and some other pretty good kids in rapid succession.
at the minimum I think we’ll win a road game next year/good times.
"If we score, we may win. If they never score, we'll never lose."
-Erk Russell
high expectations win "a" road game - lol
"One thing I will never do as long as I’m at Georgia is lose to Florida." - Herschel Walker
My new motto...
“We’re Georgia, we’ll take what we can get.”

I don't care who you are . . .
. . . that’s funny!
RedCrake, I owe you a cocktail the next time we win the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party.
So, you know, you have a drink coming sometime in the next eight or ten years.
Go 'Dawgs!
Sounds good to me...
My only regret is that the glass can’t be frosted with the sweet sweet taste of Tebow Tears.
Maybe we’ll luck out and Brantley will be a crier as well.

Brantley for Heisman
I like our winning record against UF quarterbacks in their Heisman-winnins seasons. (Non-Gator Heismans? George Rogers notwithstanding, not so much).
All right, so winning a road game is a pipe dream . . .
. . . but could we perhaps win two conference games in a row at some point? Please?
Go 'Dawgs!
On another note...
Just how bad is it going to suck to be a Tech fan (I mean, how much MORE is it going to suck) when we are still owning them in football, but swing the balance of power in basketball to our side? The Techies will have no reprieve. Then when the ACC is broken up because FSU and Clemson bolt to join the new SEC mega-conference, and Wake Forest joins the Big Televen, Tech will suddenly find itself in a lousy conference that isn’t good in anything, and they will be left picking up the pieces.
Muhuhuhahahahahahahahah!
Hope Mark Fox has a slim playbook
Kid has a lot of athleticism, but his HS gameplan consisted of rolling out the ball and being better than the opponent at five positions. Norcross would have eaten their lunch if the south GA schools allowed crossover games at state.

Although this is a good choice for me personally
Halfway through his first game I saw live, I turned to a friend and said, “I hate everything about that kid’s game” and was happy to discover I would have four more years to hate him at Clemson. Short of Kentucky, Georgia is about the best landing place for a basketball player a South Carolina fan loves to hate.
I think y’all have a very strong X and O’s coach, so he may well be a terror on the court in Athens. That will just make it easier to dislike him.

He has plenty of time to learn here...
next year, he’s a backup F behind Trey and Travis. Depending on who Fox brings in for 2011 (Kentavious Caldwell? Julian Royal?), he won’t have to be a go-to option for us. It’s a nice set up for him.
