Tweeted by David Hale, relating Coach Richt's comments at last night's Bulldog Club get-together in Macon:
Some fans will like this... Richt- "we'll prob play more 2 TE sets than we have since we had watson & mcmichael."
Yes, Dave. If by "some fans" you mean "MaconDawg", you are beyond correct. And if by "like" you mean "are incredibly excited that the coaches realize that this is a good way to maximize our depth at tight end, run the ball using our excellent tailback tandem, and protect a razor thin wide receiving corps, all while giving an inexperienced quarterback easier throws", then it's like you read my mind.
Also worth noting were Coach Richt's comments on Aaron Murray, whom Coach Richt concedes will likely be the starting quarterback and at this point "just needs to play." I like the sound of that. It will also become my mantra in a few months if/when Murray throws one of those interceptions so bad that only a freshman starter could toss it. Every QB situation is different. But in this situation, given what we've heard about Aaron Murray and his mentality and work ethic. Those comments sound to me like the words of a coach who's broken in a freshman quarterback or two, been successful doing it, and knows that the only way they ever really learn to play is to go out and play.
When will this provisionally and relatively positive news end? Deep down I feel a strange feeling in the pit of my stomach. I'm not sure, but I think it might be . . . hope. I'm not sure I know how to deal with it, or like it. Check back with me in October. Until later . . .
