The University of Georgia Chapter of the National Football Foundation will host its annual awards dinner on April 19. The keynote speech will be delivered by CBS analyst Gary Danielson and one of the honorees will be former Bulldog Tommy Lawhorne. Dr. Lawhorne was a 1967 National Scholar-Athlete Award recipient, the valedictorian of his graduating class from the University of Georgia, and very nearly the first Rhodes Scholar produced by the nation's oldest state-chartered institution of higher learning. He also was a neighbor of my mother's while growing up, but, really, that is neither here nor there.
