Our Long National Nightmare is Over...
So Corch has apologized to Jeremy "Bad Guy" Fowler.
It seems odd to me that you could go from threatening fisticuffs one day to being sorry about it a few days later, but then.... there are many things about Corch I don't understand.
This turn of events leads me to believe one of three possible things about Urbie:
1) He is dangerously unhinged and can easily fly off the handle. After time to reflect, he felt bad about it (perhaps the most logical explanation -- however unlikely -- and one which shows why the stress of the job may be leading to his poor health).
2) It was a calculated move to increase his persona with recruits and his legacy with fans (the most probable explanation)
3) He meant everything he said and only apologized because he was forced to do so (Since I don't know what's in the man's heart I won't comment on the sincerity of the apology. Fowler did accept the apology, though I have a feeling he may have been in fear for his personal well being....not really, but "If you don't accept my apology, we're going at it" has a nice ring to it)
I'll let you view this image and draw your own conclusions about the explanation for this development.
Needless to say, this apology took place privately. Regardless of Meyer's motivation for the original outburst, I think we can all agree that if you are going to berate a man in front of his colleagues and for public consumption, you ought to have the balls to apologize publicly as well.

Yeah, RC...
I saw that, too. I guess a public apology would only show the man to be weak and we can’t have that now, can we?

I think it was #3
and I also believe that Meyer was told to apologize privately, out of the public eye. In the end, this is the biggest non-story I have ever witnessed. Sometimes there just isn’t anything happening to write about….especially if you cover college football in March!
I'd have to place it at #2 on the Biggest Non-Story List.....
After the “18 Year Old College Football Player Drinks Beer and Gets Popped by Athens-Clarke Police”. But I take your point.
The sad thing is it could have been no story at all…. if Urban had reamed Fowler out over the phone or somewhere other than the practice field. The story is that he wanted a story.

It was a story before the tirade
I read about it the day before the confrontation. When I first saw the headline, I thought, “what?!?!” Then I read the entire statement in the Miami Herald version and said “What an ass Fowler is to frame it like that.”
Perhaps...
But Bianchi’s article was just as inflammatory if not more. Urban wanted to make a statement and that’s fine — other coaches have certainly done the same to varying levels of success. It will probably work out for UF in the long run as most writers will be less likely to phrase things as such. I just happen to think that a private apology comes across poorly….although Meyer probably would have preferred no apology at all.

Bianchi is a hack also.
In fact, the entire Orlando Sentinel sports staff seems to have a problem with Meyer and/or UF. Anything negative that comes out about the team or Meyer can almost always be traced back to an OS article. I think you would find a steep decline in negative stories about UF if the Sentinel actually was banned from Gator sports.
I just checked Bianchi's page
I went back over a year and EVERY SINGLE ARTICLE he has written about UF and/or Meyer during that time frame casts them in a negative light. He even takes pot shots at former Gator hoops star Dwayne Schinzius while writing about his recent Leukemia diagnosis. Pure class Bianchi.
Perhaps they could get together with the staff of the AjC for a mixer...
I think they’d hit it off.

I’ve noticed that their sports staff has very few interesting things to say….ever.
