Georgia Bulldogs v. Vanderbilt Commodores Basketball Game Night Open Comment Thread
Georgia Bulldogs at Vanderbilt Commodores, Mar 12, 2010 10:05 PM EST
Ah, just another Friday night in March. A Diamond Dogs baseball game, a Gym Dogs gymnastics meet, and . . . wait a tick. What's this? Basketball? Well, sure, I mean, Andy Landers . . . no, hold on, those are guys! What the heck is the Georgia men's basketball team doing playing a game on March 12? There's been some sort of mistake.
Son of a gun. I just checked, and that's not a typo. The Georgia Bulldogs are playing the Vanderbilt Commodores in the last game of the season (hey, it worked last night) the SEC tournament quarterfinals. If you're up that late and you haven't gone into shock over the fact that the Hoop Dogs won a conference game outside of Stegeman Coliseum, by all means, have at it in the comments below.

Read in the AJC today...
about the Nashville paper talking about how Vandy was hoping to get Arkansas instead of us. I think a lot of teams probably feel that way and while we may lose tonight, I think that speaks volumes about the job the Coach Fox has done.
I can honestly say that UGA is the best 14-16 team in the country and on any given night, I think we can beat any team in the SEC…but we can also lose to LSU, so go figure…
GO DAWGS!
How 'Bout Them Dawgs!
the team
it is very soon that our team will take the floor against a strong opponent. I have all the evidence I need from this season to have faith that they will be successful.
In many things, but now also in basketball, it is good to be a Georgia Bulldog.
I'm in hell

Ya'll know I like a little good natured ribbing now and again....
And tonight I’m feeling sort of whimsical.
So before we get into X’s and O’s and real conversation about the game, I just have one question:

Separated at birth?

Yeah... We seem to have a dearth of commenting once every 3 or 4 games...
Although Dave is at a Michael Booooooooooble concert so his butter-themed comments are sorely missed.
And yeah, Jackson has been sort of circling the drain ever since the arrest.

Sorry
Some of us (a) are still worn out after a late night last night, (b) have a standing Friday night date with our wives to watch a TV show or a movie together (the first three episodes of the DVD box set of the third season of “30 Rock,” in case anyone’s interested), and © had a baseball game and a gymnastics meet to cover, as well.
In case you didn’t know, the Diamond Dogs beat Siena in Athens and the Gym Dogs lost to Michigan in Ann Arbor. Jay Clark’s honeymoon is officially finished.

It's not an excuse
It’s an explanation. It’s a Friday night in March, and I’m a Georgia fan with a wife. It’s perfectly reasonable for me to expect to spend such an evening with the missus, with the Gym Dogs, and with the Diamond Dogs, rather than with the men’s basketball team.

a win tonight i would actually be very proud of. but as it stands, a bad UGA beat a bad Ark,and that aint gettin us nowhere
"One thing I will never do as long as I’m at Georgia is lose to Florida." - Herschel Walker
Agreed
We still haven’t beaten an SEC team in a true road game and we still haven’t won two conference games in a row. We’ve been in just about every game (including this one, although it’s starting to look like it’s going to get out of hand), but we’ve chalked up more “moral victories” than even Lane Kiffin could claim. At some point, it has to translate into actual wins.
Yes, Mark Fox has taken this program to the next level, but, when you start out in the cellar, the basement is the next level. I think we’ll look back on this season a couple of years from now as the basketball equivalent of Nick Saban losing to Louisiana-Monroe, but, until then, it’s just a boatload of Ls.

It is probably
THE foundation to everything. There are going to be nights in the near future when they’ll have to reach down really deep…and they’ve been taught how to do this.
Now, I have to reach down really deep in the chiller tray to see if I have any beer left. It’s been a very disturbing, make that, FLATDISTURBING evening. I’ve got Buble songs in my head.

I want yall to hear me clearly on this:
CMF is, in MHO, the best coach we have ever had in this sport. I adhore him. But the University, the fans, the money has to get behind him. CMF is doing ever damn thing he can.
There is great potential – but it has to be funded and suppported. And coach Fox is the real deal.

I really believe it will. He’s got to recruit first and I think he will. Next season, we’ve got a real point guard coming on board and the whole dynamic of this team will change (provided two key players don’t go pro). It’s a process…everything is.

Neither of those guys is going to get drafted, and there’s just no point n leaving if you can’t get a guaranteed contract. They’re good but they do not have John Wall or DeMarcus Couzens talent written on them.
