Georgia Bulldogs v. Arkansas Razorbacks Basketball Game Night Open Comment Thread

Georgia Bulldogs at Arkansas Razorbacks, Mar 11, 2010 10:00 PM EST

Settle in, Hoop Dogs fans; the last game of the 2009-2010 basketball season first game of the SEC tournament is upon us!

The SB Nation tournament preview is available to whet your appetite for roundball, although all-SEC first-teamer Trey Thompkins garners the Fox Hounds' only meaningful mention, which is fair, considering the won-lost record with which Georgia completed the regular season. For their part, Hog fans appear to have their doubts about the Razorbacks, as well.

Clearly, there are better days ahead for the Bulldogs, but it remains to be seen whether this is one of them. You are cordially invited to cheer on the Red and Black in the comments below.

I hate furlough days...

I hate losing days to work with my students and I hate hate hate not getting paid (then again, who doesn’t).

But the man who scheduled one of ours for the day after Georgia plays a basketball game scheduled to start at approximately 10pm is a freakin’ genius. I don’t think the basketball schedule played a role, but I’m gonna give the man the benefit of the doubt and say this is why you want to work for a fellow alumnus.

Now if he could just schedule next year’s furloughs for bowl week, national signing day, and opening day for the Diamond Dawgs we’d be all set.

I taught 8th grade science 1 year.

I’ve been undergoing electro shock therapy ever since. 8th graders should be put into a controlled coma until they are at least 10th graders.

I come from a family full of teachers . . .

. . . but I never made it past my student-teaching. I have all the respect in the world for people who can do it, but teaching truly is a vocation, a vocatio, a calling.

It was the toughest, yet most rewarding year of my life

But I absolutely picked the wrong age group for a first year teacher. I, too, have all the respect in the world for career teachers.

The scary thing is I prefer 8th graders... By far my favorite.

6th grade is a little too full of wiping noses and fart noises for me. I taught 8th grade in the inner city out of college and thought it was awful. Now I want to go back. Between that and being a Georgia fan in a ESPN/Tebow world, I must truly be a glutton for punishment.

Yeah

It takes a special kind of psycho to like middle school. All the problems of elementary school with all the social ills of high school.
But, at the very least, I never get bored… which suits my short attention span.

I have a middle schooler and a high schooler

From the parent perspective I love middle school. I also taught 6th grade math and science a million years ago. I loved it, but unfortunately wasn’t certified and could only teach in private school. I teach adults now at our local tech school and they are not nearly as much fun.

I honestly can’t remember watching a televised Georgia basketball game since the conference tournament championship game two years ago.

Not only is that bad music,

it’s Yankee music.

If the Redcoat band were to do a medley of the Allman’s, The Outlaws, Skynyrd, or any other Southern Rock act (even if it was Molly Hatchet, a pro-Florida band if there ever was one), I would embrace it with open arms and an open flask of bourbon.

Bon Jovi? They are a caracature of a rock ’n roll band.

Besides the obvious danger of injuries happening in such an exhibition

I’m surprised no one has tried to do this just simply to make more money by selling tickets and such. Maybe it just wouldn’t work the same.

Personally i think the threat of injuries wouldn’t be that much more likely to happen than and intersquad game. But i understand the hand-wringing over it.

I can't say for sure . . .

. . . but I certainly hope our defense would take it easier on our first-team quarterback than on someone else’s.

Don’t forget that we’ve had impassioned moments at G-Day when quarterbacks took off, threw shoulders, and got hit. You’d have to think there’d be more of that against a rival.

“Stairway to Heaven” is the most overrated song ever, even more so than John Lennon’s “Imagine” (which really is communist). It’s plodding, ponderous, and dull, and, when it finally turns into an actual rock song at the end, it’s about eight seconds of rock after 20 minutes of suck.

“Stairway to Heaven” sucks. People who were in high school in the ‘70s think it rocks because they all had meaningful party experiences set to that song, involving either drug usage or sexual breakthroughs. We’ve been told it’s a cool song and we’ve bought it.

Judged on it’s own merits, it’s dull, slow, and pretentious. It ought to be called “The Emperor’s New Song.”

It just strikes me as the “Titanic” of rock songs. “Titanic” should have been five minutes of exposition, followed by the guy yelling, “Iceberg!” We’re here to sink a ship, so let’s sink this bad boy, already.

Likewise, I think “Stairway to Heaven” would have kicked ass if it had begun with, “As we wind on down the road . . .” It’s too long a run for too short a slide for me, but your mileage may vary.
