A big day for Dawgsports

Today, February 23rd, marks the anniversary of an historic day in the annals of Dawgsports.  The de facto first lady of Dawgsports (other than Kyle's wife and podunkdawg, of course) was born 45 years ago today.  Who might this first lady be?  Kristin Davis, whose picture is posted here anytime Rutgers is mentioned, as well as any other time Kyle feels like the blog needs a little added beauty.  Kyle, you're slipping...I expected to see something about this hours ago!  So, without further ado...

ha!

I remember this from the first time I stumbled across this blog.

If it's

after Kyle’s wife and myself, doesn’t that make Ms. Davis the De Facto third lady of dawgsports?

Well...I guess you could make that argument...

…but it may also depend on how long you’ve been around the blog. Dawgsports has been mentioning Kristin Davis for years, so she may pre-date you. However, I didn’t want to slight the woman who has offered to bake cookies, so I just left it simple. We could possibly have different tiers of first ladies. Who knows?

Cookies?

Come on man, get it straight. Podunkdawg makes brownies. Sheesh, if you don’t know how much more heavenly brownies are than simple cookies, I might have to re-think my endorsement of this FanPost… aw, who am I kidding, any post dedicated to Kristin Davis would still get my endorsement. I’m now looking at you sideways, though. :-)

I vote for brownies podunkdawg as the second lady of DawgSports (behind, of course, Kyle’s aforementioned fairer half), and since she’s not around to complain about it, Kristin Davis as third lady.

well, vineyarddawg...

i guess that depends on how you look at it. personally, i enjoy a good, chewy, homemade chocolate chip cookie more than i enjoy a regular brownie. cream cheese brownies, however, are incredible. podunkdawg, since i can indirectly be blamed in you being nominated as DawgSports second lady (which I certainly support), how do you feel about cream cheese brownies?

I hail from

the Paula Deen School of Cooking, which means cream cheese = more fattening = definitely more better.

That is wonderful.

My dad went to high school with Paula Dean and my aunt cheered with her. Apparently she is someone who honestly went from rags to riches. Let it be noted that in the future, my brownie of request is cream cheese.

LOL

I love her cooking, and I’m a firm believer in many of the same cooking tenants as the lovely Ms. Paula, most notably – use butter, never margarine, start from scratch, get your fingers in there, etc etc etc.

Margarine

If one uses margarine for cookies, cakes, brownies, etc., then I think one should refrain from referring to the activity as “baking”. And it really doesn’t matter what it’s called, because I don’t care to hear about it.

generally speaking

if the recipe calls for oil, i’ll attempt to substitute butter at least once.

I kinda' hit me...

like an outside rush end in a 3-4 defense. Thanks for the butter. I was getting a bit low.

By the way . . .

. . . if memory serves, yesterday also was the 20th anniversary of the death of Laura Palmer, for whatever that’s worth.

Fire, walk with me.

Are you talkin' about that little girl that got murdered?

I’m going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don’t plan it. Don’t wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men’s store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee.

Twin Peaks makes me think of Saturday nights when I was in law school. Plus, I’ve seen the movie prequel countless times. My head is full of lines.

Loved Donna Hayward’s comment to Laura: “If I had a nickel for every cigarette your mother smoked, I’d be dead.” But I never quite bought Moira as Donna after Lara made the part hers (and after I met Lara and most of the Twin Peaks cast the weekend before the bar exam while attending a cast party for Oliver Stone’s The Doors at the Wisky a Go-Go, part of a contest prize. People really win on MTV).

That is way cool

The first thing I ever received payment for writing was an article on David Lynch and the happy ending for the “Twin Peaks” fanzine Wrapped In Plastic. That magazine also featured one of the best lines ever about the show: “Nobody, but nobody, ever wore a sweater like Audrey Horne.” Ain’t that the truth. . . .

In a box somewhere ...

I think I still have the Rolling Stone issue with Lara Flynn Boyle, Sherilyn Fenn, and Mädchen Amick on the cover. Oh, wait a sec. Here it is.

And just for good measure (and for nostalgia’s sake):

I know exactly . . .

. . . where my copy of that issue is.
