Georgia, at 8th, is the highest ranked team who didn't win a NC.
Is anyone else getting tired of possessing this dubious distinction? (Hat tip: Senator Blutarsky.)

Every time I see that infuriating statistic...
… I think back to 2007 and how the Tennessee became the luckiest entrant into the SEC title game since… well, since Tennessee in 1998. I mean, 3 teams missed game-winning field goals against the Vols, and even one of those three-pointers being true would have given the division championship to the Dawgs.
People can complain all they want about the fact that Georgia “didn’t deserve it” after getting spanked by Tennessee that year, but the truth is that in 2007, nobody deserved it. LSU lost their final regular season game to an unranked Arkansas team, and Georgia was playing better football than either the Bayou Bengals or Big Creamsicle at the end of the year.
If South Carolina, Kentucky, or Vanderbilt had a kicker that was worth a crap, Georgia would have been the 2007 national champion, deservedly or not.
thats why you have to win your games.
you can go to the title blemished, but you must beat florida to do so. and no stupid loses like UK or SC.
I am still mad about that UK loss. totally different bowl, totally different feel about 2009. damnit.
