Urban Meyer stepping down as Florida's coach, sources tell FanHouse. Press conference this evening to announce decision
I absolutely cannot vouch for the validity of this, but it's out there, for what it's worth. Personally, I'll believe it when I see it. Actually, no, after last year, I won't believe it until the new head coach is introduced.

How long will it last this time?
And when does the betting pool start?
And just like that, it's official
Or as official as Urban “Favre” Meyer can be: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5899478

It's a shame
I kind of like Dan Mullen as a person. Now I have to hate him with the fire of a thousand suns….

David Pollack nails the replacement:
Dan Mullen. Heck, Jeremy Foley won’t even have far to drive to hire him while he’s in Jacksonville for the Gator Bowl.
Go 'Dawgs!
McGarity needs to get on the phone with Foley and tell him he has just the guy....
Something about 7 straight games over 30 points.

Meant to post that as a reply to Kyle 2 posts up.

Are you sure it's not just gas...
like last time. I knew he shouldn’t have gone to Moe’s for lunch yesterday.

Mullen, Shmullen.
Everybody thinks Mullen, but it’s too obvious. The correct choice? LANE KIFFIN.
Make it happen, Gators.

I think he's more interested in Auburn
…seeing as how USC’s coming off their bowl ban and Auburn’s about to start one.

Personally,
I think Addazio would make a great Corch. Or Wannstedt. Or Bowden (take your pick).

I believe asking Corrine Brown to pronounce the head coaching candidates' names . . .
. . . should be a part of the hiring process.
Go 'Dawgs!
At the minimum she should administer the "Oath of Gatuh" during the swearing in ceremony...
I just wish the SEC had more drama. Such a boring group…

This got me to thinkin'...
Maybe we should hire Addazio as a defensive coach. Turns out he could stop Urban’s offense better than we could.

Wish he have stayed around long enough for us to beat him at least one more time.
….then again that hasn’t worked out too so far.

I read your comment and immediately thought...
… “Well, he ain’t staying around another decade, that’s for sure.”
What will forever stay in the mind of rbubp
is that Corch Meyers is a quitter on top of being a jerk.
As I am sure many of you did during the season, several of my friends and
I discussed how Meyer on the sidelines this year looked totally disinterested and some of us commented how he looked like he wished he hadn’t let Fla talk him into coming back. Interestingly, we made those comments about tv games prior to the Cocktail Party during which we remarked how it looked like he had gotten the fire back. He may not be gone, but he sure looked like he wished he was elsewhere during the season. Guess that’s what a 7-5 record at UF will get you.
(“Duh” not directed at you, jujdawg, so much as at Corch Meyers for apparently not being prepared for that special moment when his team was less than great.)
no problem. I think he really wanted to quit last year__maybe health problems but
also think he saw the down year coming. Heck, winning 2 national championships in 5 years__no way to go but down, imo.
From the already-epic thread at EDSBS:
UF is playing Penn State in the Outback Bowl.
One coach is retiring, and the other coach is Joe Paterno.
It’s a crazy, [messed] up world we live in.
Again, just like last year...
I honestly wish Coach Meyer a happy, healthy, long life with his family. I honestly hope he sticks to his guns this time and that maybe we can catch a glimpse of him at a UGA/GT volleyball match. Being a coach myself, I can tell you the stress from the job is high, I can’t even imagine what it’s like at a D1 school in football, but there is stress at all levels. I know other jobs have it too, don’t get me wrong.
I’ll also never forget a story a coaching friend of mine told a group of us at camp one year. I’ll try to be brief. Two competing shipping companies were sailing down the Mississippi River to deliver furniture to New Orleans to be shipped overseas. The two captains each wanted to beat the other to deliver so they could recoup the most benefit. With that in mind, they decided to race to the finish. In the attempt to be first, one captain burned up all his coal. He decided to use some of the furniture to power the ship. When he reached the port he was first. However, he had no furniture as it had all been burned in the attempt to be first. The moral of the story, when you’re attempting to be first, don’t burn the cargo. For all of us, family and, as Urban put it, the things away from the field are our cargo. Don’t burn the cargo.
God bless Urban Meyer and his family.

The other captain in your story...
…was impressed by the speed his first mate was able to maintain, even though they kept going down the wrong channels and getting lost. Worse still, once they got to port, his new longshoreman in charge of loading and unloading cargo could not get his guys to lift the furniture consistently from the hold…kept getting winded late in the day. But he was a good and kind captain, and all thought well of him….even if he could never win the race.
The moral of this side of the story….get better cargo, get a fit crew, steer the damn ship, and beat Florida for Christ’s sake!
(not making fun of you or the story E-Dawg…just being an idiot!)
Run Lindsay Run!
I look at it this way too.
and wish him well.
And hope that this means UF hits the skids and never recovers!
Now, if this goes down
And Mark Richt leaves for one reason or another, Steve Spurrier and Les Miles would be tied for longest tenures. Spurrier would once again be the Dean. With Les Miles. I think that is reason enough to keep Richt.

When I first heard this news...
… my immediate reaction was that, basically Urban must have realized that it really was a mistake to come back after he retired. After seeing him on the sidelines this year, it’s hard to dispute that claim, as well. After his event last year, he tried to change the type of coach that he was, and it seems to me that he’s discovered that he’s not able to be the kind of “CEO coach” that Bobby Bowden or Mark Richt is.
No one wishes health problems onto anyone, and I certainly hope this action is not driven by any recurrence of a health issue. All of the (very limited) reaction I’ve heard so far is that this, basically, is related to the emotional and mental burnout he was suffering from last year.
As Kyle has said many times, our rivalries, even the ones with Florida and Auburn, are strictly institutional and not personal. Therefore, I honestly and sincerely wish Urban Meyer a happy, healthy and long future with his daughters, family, and in all of his future endeavors.
I hate Florida
and that means I am no longer constrained to hate the Corch (in his professional capacity)… for now.

meh i don't wish ill on him but I never liked him as a person
I actually like Richt while disliking the bulldogs. It is hard but I have heard many say the same thing about Dooley and the Vols. I have always harbored a strong disliking of Meyer though
I like orange and I am a dog person
The two early leading replacement candidates I've heard...
… are Dan Mullen and Bobby Petrino.
Dan Mullen is obvious, but the Bobby Petrino thing is hilarious, both because Florida would probably seriously consider him and because he probably definitely would go. Heck, Bobby Petrino probably even started that rumor himself.
Herbstreit also through out
Gruden. He seemed to think that he would consider the job anyway.
After considerable reflection, I have concluded . . .
. . . that this is a delayed-reaction benefit to sacrificing that goat.
Go 'Dawgs!
Late last week
I had poked my head in my bosses office to find him on the phone, so I walked away. When he got done with his phone call, he came to find me & asked what I needed. I simply said, “I quit.” He said, “Okay” and walked away. He didn’t believe me, not even for a split second.
The moral of this story is some times people just won’t believe you – this is one of those times. I don’t believe him. It’s gonna take a whole lot for me to believe him – like Florida actually hiring a new head coach, not just a bunch of us talking about who they might want.
I can bake like a demon.
What, so you're going to hold it against a guy that he lies as a matter of course . . .
. . . and changed his mind within 24 hours after retiring a year ago? That seems a bit unfair!
No, wait, I’m sorry . . . that seems perfectly fair, doesn’t it?
Go 'Dawgs!
yes,
yes it does.
Also, he is automatically disqualified from the donate to deeds & get a chance to win a pan of brownies contest.
I can bake like a demon.
That'll teach him.
Improves my odds anyway.
