Georgia Bulldogs Basketball Game Night Open Comment Thread
High Point Panthers at Georgia Bulldogs, Dec 21, 2010 7:00 PM EST
I'm going to be perfectly honest with you; if you had asked me one day prior to the release of the Georgia Bulldogs' 2010-2011 men's basketball schedule to identify the High Point Panthers, I'd have guessed they were a high school team. I'm hoping tonight's game at Stegeman Coliseum will validate that belief, but, given the Hoop Dogs' penchant for playing close games even against overmatched opponents, I'm not holding my breath.
This is your game night open comment thread, in which you are welcome to cheer Mark Fox's team on to victory and/or wail and gnash your teeth as the Red and Black struggle to put away a visiting team during what was supposed to be the easy part of the schedule. Either way, join in the conversation.

After missing Saturday's game
Due to family commitments… I am soooo ready for this.
High Point Panthers…. 60% of the time, they lose every time.

Up 20-11 with 10 points in the paint.
Seven points off of turnovers, but getting outrebounded again.

I love Litterial Green
But anyone that says Dustin Ware always plays under control hasn’t been watching much prior to this season.
No offense Dustin…. I, for one, love your “drive into the paint and pretend I’m a tornado” move.

Dawgs letting it all hang out now
Quite fun to watch.

Here's hoping they keep up the good work.
Up 58-32 with twelve minutes to go. Let’s see if they can close the deal instead of letting the other team climb back into it the way they did this weekend.

The Hoop Dogs are still getting murdered on the boards, though.
High Point has 32 rebounds to Georgia’s 25. The visitors hold an 18-9 edge in offensive rebounds.

All right, I'll give you that one.
Don’t get me wrong; I’m thrilled the Red and Black are up 67-37 and show no signs of taking their foot off the gas, but this team’s weak points remain as apparent as ever.

I reject your stat based reality
And choose to live in my fantasy world where rebounds and poor shot selection don’t matter.

And while our weak points may remain
I’d argue that our strong points are becoming stronger and more consistent…. so maybe it helps balance that out a bit.

DAWGS WIN! DAWGS WIN!

I was worried for a while there…. but that’s me…. I’m a worrier. That’s why my friends call me Whiskers.

I just checked in and saw the score.
Holy crap… 85-38? I mean, I know this is like beating Georgia Southern 73-0 in football, but still… that’s pretty impressive.
Allowed 14 points in the 2nd Half...
And 10 minutes of that was 2nd string. Impressive indeed.
Plus USC just beat Captain Pants-On-Fire and the Creamsicles… so its been a pretty good night all the way around.

The point about the second string is noteworthy, . . .
. . . because the bench contributed mightily tonight, and it was toward the end of the game that Georgia started improving in some statistical areas, such as rebounds. That’s an encouraging sign for the future, both in the long-term and the short-term.
In light of some of the embarrassing losses to suspect competition suffered by some of our conference coevals, I have to say I’m also encouraged by the fact that Mark Fox’s team is finding a way to get it done against the teams the Bulldogs are supposed to beat, even if this is the first game in which Georgia has really put an opponent away.
