One of my law partners is a Georgia Tech graduate. He was out of the office all week on vacation, but, when he called to check in, he told my secretary to quote to me the four words from the Yellow Jackets' fight song that the Ramblin' Wreck faithful sing most lustily, which I refuse to repeat here, but which form a Georgia Tech fan's response to the question, "What's the good word?"
Later during the week, I received a call from another colleague of mine, who is a University of Georgia graduate, and whose son currently attends the Georgia Institute of Technology. He recalled the 1984 game, after which Golden Tornado quarterback John Dewberry was seen holding a large chunk of the hedge. He added, "You have no idea how much it galls me to have to write those bastards a check twice a year."

I didn’t know he had a connection to the state, but I figured there was something when he did those Falcons commercials (which certainly seem to have worked, by the way).
If he went to school in Atlanta and does promos for an Atlanta sports team, and he’s sporting Bulldog gear at the Georgia-Georgia Tech game, you have to think it’s sincere.

Well, it was 50 degrees at kickoff, and it dropped to around 40 by the end of the game.

I have to laugh at the notion that Grantham’s scheme doesn’t require a big, space-eating NT in order for it to properly work. I remember a lot of talk in the preseason about the 2 gap 3-4 being able to get by without a behemoth NT, but if this season is any indication, it just doesn’t work on teams that can consistently pound the ball up the middle.

Mark Richt is 96-33, which gives him the best record in school history through 129 games. Randy Shannon was 28-22 and was the least successful Miami coach of the last three decades.
The only comparison between the two is that they both played for Miami. Well, that, and the fact that they’re both carbon-based life forms.

thats terrible.
I’m not a coaching search committee, i don’t know the first thing about hiring a coach. i am convinced of what i see . i see a team that has consistently underperformed in richts tenure (including the “good years” with losses vs zook’s teams.) i see a team that seems overmatched often in terms of strategy (rarely in terms of talent). i see a team that often starts games uninspired or mentally unprepared. Richt can’t get his guys up for every game, and never has. Even in the best of years we were playing tight games with the like of middle tennesee state. i can bitch because i see a team that should be better. and i don’t mean have a better record. first, they should just BE better. tonight was pathetic.

Because Wally Butts won early, went through a downcycle, was afforded patience by the program due to his earlier success, and rewarded his employer with the 1959 SEC championship and four straight wins over Georgia Tech.

I'm genuinely curious as to what insane logic could lead anyone (Georgia or Tech fan) to conclude that Tech has 3 legit NC and Georgia has only 1

Last night, shortly after the foregoing exchange, podunkdawg quite properly sent Mark Shale a warning. After spotting the flagged comment above time-stamped 11:44, I changed the warning to a ban, and informed Mark Shale that the “inbreeding” comment was what got him banned.
I find it particularly interesting that Mark Shale called Georgia Tech “[t]hey” at 11:29, called Georgia “[w]e” at 11:33 and “UGA” at 11:37, then referred to Georgia as “you” twice at 11:44. That, ladies and gentlemen, is the definition of a troll, as he was masquerading as a fan for the purpose of causing trouble. There is no place for that here, and he is gone.
I want to thank everyone for dealing with this by flagging the offending comment and contacting the moderator so that it could be dealt with in the appropriate manner, and I apologize to everyone who had to deal with Mark Shale during the actual thread.

It always annoys me when I go to other blogs that do that...
… because I (usually) have something non-trollish to add to the conversation, and it usually will not be as timely or poignant after 24 hours have passed. As happens to many good things, though, too many abuse the right to sign up and immediately comment, so we have to place limits on how long a person has to wait before commenting.
I kind of stinks, but I totally understand the rationale for implementing such a waiting period, and would support such a move.

If you saw my posts this week I said I hoped for all AJ all game. Nothing but west coast. But 5 passes? 2.5 a quarter in the 2nd half? It hurts to think about it.
It should have been a highlight film of AM to AJ. CMB gets in trouble for 1st and 10 bombs, and then against the one team that would work, he doesnt do it. This was the one game where if he through bombs every down I wouldnt care. I simply dont understand. I am not saying “fire X”, or any hate or anything, I sincerley, honestly, dont understand how 5 passes on AJ senior day against a horible pass coverage team doesnt happen.

our opponents run the same play over and over and we have no answer. How many times did Newton fake the hand off to McCaleb and then keep? How many times tonight did Anthony Allen have the ball?
Why is this so hard for us?

I hate winning like this.
I want the win but it feels dirty when we play so poorly and have to escape this way. Tech sucks and we should have kicked their ass, especially once we got up 35-21.
I feel the same way. We won because they missed a PAT. We gave up two 14 pt leads. We took our foot off the pedal with the passing game. It's a shallow victory to me. I fully expected a loss inthe last 5 minutes.

Uga VIII is really young for his duties. He should be a little more in game shape next year. And we are getting a new S&C trainer fr him.

This is the worst I’ve felt about a Georgia win. I am only relieved, not happy.
Mike Bobo doesn’t have it. The guy is a DGD, and he definitely has his moments, but this game was painful to watch. The playcalling was atrocious. We can quote the 30+ points streak all we want, but this is pulling a Mark Twain. We’re scoring points because we have the best WR in college football and the best frosh QB in college football. Our OC is holding us back, not taking advantage of mismatches and playing to our strengths.
Our defense looked like they’d never seen a triple option offense for most of the game. That was better than a Willie effort (like most of this season) but it was still incredibly frustrating to see us get pushed around by Tech (!!!) and gashed up the middle over and over and over again. I still think this is more of a talent issue than a scheme issue, but we’ve still got a lot of work to do.
Nice series on that last drive PJ… that’s two years now you’ve gone away from what worked with a chance to win in the final minutes of the game. Cheers.

Without the forced fumble and the free touchdown by Ealey, we would only have scored 28 points and our 30+ point streak will be over
but I agree with you on Bobo being too inconsistent. I don’t want to quote Katy Perry, but I have to say this “Bobo is ‘Hot N’ Cold’.” Sometimes, he does things that work, and we call him a genius. Other times, he repeats the same things that leave us scratching our heads so hard that even our scalp shows.
For the long term viability of success for the UGA football program, there may be other successful OC’s out there. I am not sure if Richt will hire another one for next season, but I am sick and tired with all the 1st and bombs, run up the middle, the incomplete pass, and the imminent punt.
If Richt stays, I still have enough faith to believe he will formulate a year where he will shock us by sending his team to a BCS bowl and the NC. Right now, we don’t have the right cards in our hands to do it.

I been to two bowls. One was very nice - we lost. One sucked, we won. The next one I go to, I need it not to be cold, and in a city I can have fun in. No more trasholes. Memphis - whew.

3 weeks of practice
will help IMMEASURABLY for the defense. On the offense, it helps get ready for life post-AJ. Not a coach alive will tell you it doesn’t. And it gets some practice time for those redshirts and very early enrollees.
As for the bowl, depends on where we go. I can stand a bowl in Bammer or Nashville (and of course, ATL) but not Memphis or LA. Probably have the Marriott points (last time I cashed in was for the Hawaii-beating in NOLA), so it’s just the cost of tickets/travel/booze. We’ll see Podunk…..

There was quite a bit of action on here especially one suspected troll who was contesting about our consensus national championships
but overall for most of us, it was another day at the forums posting about a tough hard fought rivalry game.

I don’t know if I did this right, but I think Murray may have bumped his passing efficiency rating up to 162 – which could potentially put him in the top 10 nationally as a freshman. Additionally, I think Justin Houston made a nice case for himself to snag a major award this year.

according to the stats I’m seeing (here) and the calculator I’m using (here), he was at 250.86 for the night, which when combined with his previous season totals (here) bring his total up 6 points. Unless I entered something wrong.

So is it fair to say that you’re duly impressed? Unless he ruins it in the bowl game, it’s the highest passer efficiency rating at UGA… ever. By 7 points. Already 5th most passing yards in a single season in school history. One away from tying Stafford’s single season TD record.
If he does this for two more years, he’s going to break a lot of school career records. If he does it for 3 more, he could break them all.

The locals here in Husker-ville really like their freshman QB Martinez......great player but completely different style than Murray...runner first, then throw...had a bum leg for a few weeks though
