Chris Low Has Georgia in Something Called the Compass Bowl
I'm going to have to look that one up, because it's a new one on me; I don't even know where it's played, or what the corporate sponsor makes. Here's the kicker, though: it's a January 8 bowl game, making it the third-latest bowl game (behind only the Fight Hunger Bowl and, of course, the BCS National Championship Game).
I'm still holding out hope for a Music City Bowl matchup with Clemson, but, failing that, I have to say that a January bowl game (with the accompanying practice time stretching into the new year) has a lot of appeal.
Of course, first the Bulldogs have to get bowl eligible. First things first.

Ah. Thanks.
Yes, I see now that it’s not the Compass Bowl sponsored by BBVA, it’s what briefly became the untitled unsponsored Birmingham Bowl that is now sponsored by BBVA Compass, which appears to be some sort of financial institution.
Well, O.K., then. Still, a January bowl game is a January bowl game! (Yeah, all right, not really.)

You have to admit it's aptly named now, though
as in, You have to be somewhat adrift as a program in order to play in it. (I do sincerely hope everyone on the team gets a compass as their bowl gift)
Practices for that Kraft Hunger thing will damn near count as training camp.

I guess that would keep with our legacy of playing in every bowl possible
and (as I always say) I would rather not go to a bowl. We didnt earn it.

True, but the extra practice time would benefit the team heading into next year.
In short, I agree with you in principle but disagree with you in practice. :)

I'm 100% with you on this one.
We need all the practice time we can get.
Unfortunately, unless I’m mistaken, we’re allowed the same amount of bowl practice time whether we play on January 8 or December 28. It would just mean that we would start our bowl practices later that we normally otherwise would.
Either way, though, we certainly need the extra practice.

The Compass Bowl...
the perfect post-season game for teams that just couldn’t seem to find their way…

To make it even better...
… we could be playing Syracuse.
Syracuse.
And just when I thought it couldn’t be any worse than going to play SMU.
There is a flaw in Low’s logic, though. The Outback is required to take an SEC East team, so unless the ‘Cocks spring a huge upset, they will be in Tampa on New Year’s morning. Low also assumes that one of Alabama, Arkansas, or LSU won’t get an at-large spot in a BCS bowl… one of them should surely get in. That will leave the other two to be split between the Capital One and the Cotton.
The Peach-Fil-A Bowl will then have to choose between Mississippi State and Florida. MSU has certainly had the better year… but will Florida be a better draw? The Gator Bowl would gladly take whoever doesn’t get chosen for the Chick-Fil-A, which leaves the Music City Bowl to choose between Tennessee, Georgia, and Kentucky. I have no idea who would win out in that decision, but I would tend to think Georgia fans would turn out better for a 6-6 team than Tennessee’s would, and Kentucky’s fans have been to Nashville 3 out of the last 4 years.
So, if we can somehow manage to beat Tech, the Georgia vs. Clemson Music City Bowl matchup isn’t so far-fetched.
Just to clarify...
The Outback is not requried to take an SEC East team…see last year’s Outback Bowl where Auburn defeated Northwestern. The Cotton & Outback share the 3rd & 4th selections. The Cotton has has first preference of teams from the West and the Outback has first choice from teams from the East. BUT they are not required to take a team from the East.
BOO facts.
I reject your fact-based reality and substitute my own poorly-thought-out analysis in its stead. :-)
