Around SBN: The Lakers Are a Broken Model

Programming Note: Dawg Sports Radio Appearance Scheduled for Monday Evening

Because I couldn't find anything more fun to do, like getting my wisdom teeth removed without anesthesia or having a biker gang pummel me into unconsciousness with chains, I am slated to call in to John Frary's radio show on ESPN Radio 1420 out of St. Augustine during the 7:11 commercial break tonight.

Don't get me wrong; John is a great guy, and I ordinarily enjoy speaking with him, but, man, this was a loss so tough to take that it makes me almost physically ill to think about it, much less talk about it, and it causes me to question, however slightly, some fundamental assumptions underlying my basic philosophy of life. Do nice guys truly finish last? Will good ultimately triumph over evil? Is success attainable by someone attempting to behave decently, or does victory require a heartless mercenary attitude that casts morality to the wind?

Anyway, I'm scheduled to go on the radio tonight and talk about last Saturday's game. Be sure to tune in locally or visit the station's website and click "Listen Live" to see if I am able to discuss this matter rationally or whether I will wind up talking to John as though he were a volunteer at the local crisis hotline. It could go either way, really, and hearing me experience a complete mental and emotional breakdown on live radio might be good for a few laughs.

Go 'Dawgs!

seriously?

“or does victory require a heartless mercenary attitude that casts morality to the wind?”

I figured.

But thought I’d ask….as you were.

Not mutually exclusive

I don’t think one has to be amoral to effectively lead a team. I also don’t see anything amoral about winning by 50… so…

The dude abides.

I have no moral problem with winning by 50.

However, there are distinctions between kneeling it out and calling time-outs in a blowout, between handing down increasingly stern punishments for disciplinary infractions and letting a guy back onto the team after losing a couple of games, announcing the dismissal of your defensive coordinator before the season ends and keeping your upcoming change of defensive coordinators under wraps until the day after signing day, and adopting Ukrainian orphans and changing your mind about retiring after your daughter hugs you and says, “I got my daddy back!”

Kyle

Maybe I don’t speak for absolutely every regular poster here, but at least most of us will take no joy from any breakdown, mental or emotional. We’re suffering right along with you.

That said, I’m channeling my inner-Tammy:
Sometimes its hard to be a woman
Giving all your love to just one man
You’ll have bad times
And he’ll have good times
Doing things that you don’t understand
But if you love him you’ll forgive him
Even though he’s hard to understand
And if you love him
Oh be proud of him
‘Cause after all he’s just a man
Stand by your man
Give him two arms to cling to
And something warm to come to
When nights are cold and lonely
Stand by your man
And tell the world you love him
Keep giving all the love you can
Stand by your man
Stand by your man
And show the world you love him
Keep giving all the love you can
Stand by your man

I can bake like a demon.

Thanks.

I’m considering going on a hunger strike until Georgia beats Florida. Either I’ll be rewarded with a Georgia victory over Florida, or I’ll only have to suffer through one more Bulldog loss to the Gators before I die. I view that as a win-win, really.

At least let me do the hunger strike thing.

That’ll give us a couple of years to pull it off.

to go on a hunger strike. i’ll have to think of something else.

It could be like a Lenten offering. . . . .

We could give something up, or put money in a jar. The sacrificial options are truly endless.

We could all refuse to renew our licenses or pay traffic tickets...

In a show of solidarity.
