Edwards is another . . .
former Nick Saban assistant. With the emergence of Edwards, Kirby Smart, Will Muschamp and a host of others, it has become clear that being a “Saban guy” is the new “Walsh guy”, “Parcells guy” and “Bellichick guy”. At least in the college ranks. That is, there’s a degree of cache that comes from having worked under him.
I see where the Gators old defensive coordinator has stolen a UGA
recruit for Louisville and another is “on hold” until Richt acts. Oh, by the way, it is apparent to me that it is Saban, not Kirby, running the show on D at Bama.
Jujdog . . .
to be fair, UGA cut B.J. Butler loose, largely because he was kicked off his own high school team after his coach called him uncoachable and undisciplined. We may have dodged a bullet there.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see at least one other defensive end recruit decommit as well, with our coaches’ full support. As you’ve well noticed, Coach Fabris’s evaluation of defensive end talent these past few years was, let’s say, unique.
Maybe so Macon,
But the “on hold” guy is a DB .

I'm glad you mentioned . . .
Nickell Robey. I understand that he’s antsy that our new DC (whoever that is) won’t like short cornerbacks (Robey’s about 5’8). Personally, I can sympathize with him. Robey is also Carlton Thomas’s cousin, so one wonders if his cousin’s apparent disappearance as this year wore on had an effect.
And this is just my opinion, but Robey reminds me of Prince Miller coming out of high school. That of course could mean a variety of things depending on your perspective on Prince’s time in Athens.
Yep, we definitely don't want Robey . . .
Dec 23, 2009: “Last night was a big night for Nickell Robey. Robey, a four-star cornerback prospect from Frostproof High School, had a monster game in the Florida Athletic Coaches Association North-South All-Star Football Classic at Fireman’s Field in Sebring, Fla. He had two interceptions including one in the endzone. Robey had a four-down stop for a loss on the goal line. He also caused and recovered a fumble late in the game to sit up the winning score.” And, since he only committed Dec 1, 2009, how could his cousin’s disappearance months earlier have affected his current reluctance?
He's actually been . . .
committed since July.
And I don’t doubt that he’s an excellent player. I know there are plenty of shorter cornerbacks who perform very well (Tim Jennings, for example). And Robey’s list of offers is pretty impressive. But in the SEC, against the schools we play and their receiving corps, I think his size will be a greater liability than it is at the high school level.
Yeah, I'm sure glad we didn't get the 5'9" Greg
Reid. He surely couldn’t make it in the SEC.
