Sundiata Gaines Update

For those of you who are interested, Sundiata gaines got his first taste of action in the NBA last night, playing point guard with the Jazz in the place of the injured Deron Williams. He got a substantial amount of minutes (20:36) for a guy making his NBA debut from the NBDL, and the results were mixed. He was only 1 for 7 on FGs and was 0 for 3 behind the arc. He had one rebound, one turnover, and was 1 for 2 from the charity stripe. His bright spot was his ability to move the ball around, tallying 5 assists (third-most on the team) in a game where the Jazz had a season high 39 assists and went on to win handily, 117-94. The Jazz already had an open spot on their roster when they signed Gaines to a ten day contract, so they could decide to keep him on for the time being, or he could go back to Idaho at the end of the ten days. The deciding factors will probably be a mix of when Deron Williams returns to the starting lineup, as well as how Gaines performs while he's in Salt Lake City. The Jazz have four more games during Sundiata's guaranteed time with the team, beginning tomorrow night against the Grizzlies in Memphis. Let's hope he continues to get minutes and earns his keep on the team. Go Dawgs!
