Some of you are thinking, "This is great. Someone is finally going to fix the BCS." But consider some of the federal government's greatest hits of the last ten years: The War in Iraq. The response to Hurricane Katrina. Oh, yeah, and helping the banks almost destroy the American economy.
This is avoiding the obvious point that Sen. Hatch -- who asked DOJ to look into this -- has otherwise been busy with writing paens to limited government. Apparently, regulating college football must be in the enumerated powers somewhere.

Exactly.
The only reason Orrin Hatch is banging this drum is because he happens to represent a state where two good non-BCS teams reside. We all know about the University of Utah, but can you imagine the flak that he must be getting from fellow Mormons who are outraged at having to travel to Las Vegas for a bowl game five years in a row? And during a period when they were actually good, too.
(Though, admittedly, it does make for epic contrast, made all the more poignant by the fact that it happens over… and over… and over…)
