Getting together next season?

Since we've talked about getting together at one game or another next season, and there seems to be a good deal of interest in doing so, here's a poll to figure out which game we should get together at.  It seemed to be a good place to start planning.

The other question of course will be do we try to get tickets or just pick a place to watch the game at?  That's for a later post.

Poll
Which away game should we plan to meet up at?

true -

but for some it’s closer than other options. I saw one post looking for an alternative to Colorado, another post suggesting Starkville/Lexington since we’d all be in such a good mood after a win, so I just thought I’d throw all 6 away games into the mix.

I think we should get together in Athens for an away game...

… and enjoy gameday in the Classic City in a non-crazy-gameday atmosphere.

Of course, I have a biased opinion, because I’m already going to Boulder and Jacksonville, so my wife won’t let me I won’t be able to do an additional trip.

That's a really awesome idea.....

and one that clearly did not occur to me.

and since it let me,

this is now a new poll option.

I know a great BBq place in Athens...

It’s called Austin’s, and it’s my stepdad’s house. Just throwing it out there. I will put my leave in as soon as it is decided. All I need is an excuse to head home!

do they serve alcohol?

PS -

Y’all realize that everyone will end up with a name tag that says “Aerodawg” or “Vineyarddawg” or “Podunkdawg” and no one will be able to remember “real names” right?

I had thought about that

It does involve some sacrifice of anonymity.

That’s not a problem for me, but it’s out there.

The trip to Stillwater was my first road game in a while, so that’s not something I could do again this year, but I’d definitely be up for meeting in Athens to watch a televised away game.

I'm in

I’m all about excuses to make a trip down to the Classic City, especially when football is involved.

Yep.

And Athens on an away-game date is a nice change of pace. I’ll take any excuse to spend time in Athens.

by NCT on Jan 11, 2010 9:06 AM EST up reply actions

I love it

Great idea, podunkdawg. I rememeber someone tossing the idea out for a DawgSports tailgate before a home game, but I think that would have been too difficult to plan logistically. The away game idea is golden. I personally don’t have an anonymity issue. Sure, I don’t use my real name on here, but if we’re at Austin’s BBQ in Athens, you will all know me as both marktheshark and my real name (to be reveled at Austin’s). Keep us all posted. I will be there.

by marktheshark on Jan 11, 2010 3:11 PM EST reply actions

Austin's

I’ve never heard of this Austin’s. And I’m always searching for good barbecue. Hell, living in Atlanta, I’ll settle for decent barbecue. Any info (pulled vs. chopped/sliced, kind of sauce(s) available, level of “fanciness” re sides, etc.) would be appreciated.

I thought Austin was his Step Dad

by tankertoad on Jan 11, 2010 5:34 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, that's what I got, too.

I thought he was inviting us to his stepfather’s house. Or it could just be the restaurant that his stepfather owns and is there so much that it’s as though he lives there.

Care to elaborate, AeroDawg?

by vineyarddawg on Jan 11, 2010 5:46 PM EST up reply actions

I wasn't sure about that.

I thought maybe I was confused. Perhaps you are correct. And perhaps I’m still confused.

by NCT on Jan 11, 2010 5:46 PM EST up reply actions

It is my Mom and Stepdad's house. He has a hug smoker and grill and has folks over for every away game.

Austin is always up for a chance to show off his BBQ skills. Just throwing it out there. Wherever the crowd goes, I will be there. Break/Break. Tanker, I am waiting for my opportunity to apply for a position back home in GA. One GA boy may have given up his chance to come home, but this one is working his butt off in hopes of gettign home.

Aerodawg got my handle immediately as an AF mobility pilot

but, as this is 2010, i have to admit i have been waiting for someone to ask me what it means. Tanker is the plane – TOAD is an acronym if that helps any.

Being a newbie...

would I be appreciated at this event? Be honest, don’t want to crash where I’m not wanted.

Ask us again in a few months?

just kidding – I’ll make no claims to know who would/wouldn’t be welcome beyond this – if anyone invites CWM, they are risking their necks.

I don't think

Willie would show! I wouldn’t risk my neck either!

Well, if we go to AeroDawg's mother's and stepfather's house . . .

. . . I think the extent of the guest list is his call.

We’re not going to have to eat and watch TV in the basement of your mom’s house, are we, AeroDawg? ’Cause we bloggers are sensitive about that whole stereotype.

Wow - no one wants to go to Lexington

but at least one person wants each of the remaining options…interesting voting. Any away game at Athens is in 1st place, narrowly edging out the two options tied for 2nd – Colorado & Auburn.

Would be fun

and if you decide that you want to meet as many as possible, then a neutral space would probably be more conducive to that type of event.

Maybe a bar downtown?

Are we reasonably agreed to

Getting together in Athens for an Away game? I see votes for other options – does this option mean anyone absolutely can’t make it?

by podunkdawg on Jan 11, 2010 10:49 PM EST reply actions

I think that's probably best

The availability of tickets, distance from wherever all of us are to wherever the game is being played, etc., would seem to be a logistical nightmare. I like the idea of meeting in Athens someplace with a television on the day of an away game; that way, the same crowd that would be in Athens, anyway, can spend an extra Saturday in the Classic City, and those who don’t make it back as often can make arrangements for this to be their weekend back. (We even have fight songs upon the subject of going back to Athens.)

Thanks for getting the ball rolling on this, podunkdawg.

Go 'Dawgs!

I figured going home

is probably easiest thing to do for everyone involved, and since there’s probably no hotel rooms involved, we can spend more money on food, drinks and in general enjoying ourselves. Besides – most of us that live away from home, will take just about any excuse to go home.

So we’re on to the next poll – which weekend????

by podunkdawg on Jan 12, 2010 10:46 AM EST up reply actions

Currently we have a 3 way tie

between:
Any away game at Athens
Going to Auburn
Going to Jax

I’m going to set up a new poll for which weekend at Athens…
