Should I Be Manic or Depressive Regarding the Georgia Bulldogs' Opener Against the Oklahoma State Cowboys?
As you can tell, MaconDawg and I are back into the swing of things, with our usual in-season fare either on the front page or on tap for the week leading up to Labor Day weekend. Those of you who have been around a while know that this will culminate on Friday with my weekly installment of "Too Much Information" regarding Georgia’s upcoming opponent.
I find myself in a bit of a quandary, however. I have adopted a dour outlook on the coming campaign, so much so that I was---and still am---giving serious consideration to the possibility of predicting that the Bulldogs will lose. I recognize, though, that many of you are much more upbeat and positive about the 2009 season, and Dawg Sports is, after all, a community of fans.
Accordingly, I am asking you to vote in the following poll, which will be open for the twelve hours from 5:00 a.m. Thursday to 5:00 p.m. Thursday. I will not cast a vote, nor will I attempt to influence the outcome in any way, and I will abide by the result. You may feel free to use the comments to attempt to persuade your fellow citizens of Bulldog Nation to vote one way or the other.
In this instance, the majority will rule. If "Manic Kyle" finishes in front, I (like Rod Stewart) will look to find a reason to believe. If "Depressive Kyle" ends up with the lead, Saturday’s game will be given the full Chicken Little treatment. If there’s a tie, well, I may break down the game Gollum-style.
Have at it. May the better me win.
Go ‘Dawgs!

"Find[ing] a reason to believe"
. . . Isn’t exactly manic. If “Manic” wins out, you’re going to need to go all out for us. We’re talking about persistent, blatant, aggressive, unapologetic homerism; a catalog of obscure historical minutiae which have little to no bearing on the present contest but provide positive precedent for a Bulldog victory; intricate instructions for an amusing drinking game (if MaconDawg hasn’t already staked this territory for Cocktail Thursday); and, most importantly, a boisterous wager that if Georgia doesn’t crush OSU by 38, you’ll streak down Broad Street a la Will Ferrell in Old School (or something along those lines).
That’s manic. If we vote manic, then there better be none of this namby-pamby “reasons to believe” stuff.
Leaving insightful football commentary and analysis to other people since 2006.
I might have to vote Depressive
Just because I want you to post what you really think.
Why not a “Reasons we’ll win” and a “Reasons we won’t win” kinda-thing. Man, I’m all pumped this Thursday morning for some Cocktail Thursday and you punch me in the ribs with this!
GO DAWGS
by the way
Caleb and Kiante Tripp will both miss Saturday’s game and I don’t think either will travel.
Both are expected to play in our home opener. Don’t know if someone has posted this yet.
I feel it in my bones...
that we are going to win and I am generally not wrong about these “feelings” (I called the loss to Vandy in ’06). As for the rest of the season I have no idea, but Kyle will be updating the Mark Richt Victory Watch on Saturday night.
Manic
Not only is manic Kyle more fun, I think manic is the right way to go. I honestly have no idea what to expect from this season. None at all. Therefore, I have no reason to be depressed. Just because this team has question marks doesn’t mean we won’t like the answers. If given a reason, I will swing to depressive faster than anyone this side of Larry Munson. But until then, manic it is.
Call me Sophie.
I’ll ponder on the question, but at the moment I’m caught in a superstitious loop.
Ich kann nicht wahlen! Ich kann nicht wahlen!
Y'ALL ARE MAKING ME DEPRESSIVE!!!
Maniac, maniac, maniac!! C’mon guys you know the drill- shove it down their throats!! The Okie defense will not stop our strength-the “O” line! Give it to Samuel & watch him pick up 1st down after 1st down. Then throw in a little of Thomas to keep ’em on their toes! The winner is the one who scores the most points, correct? I believe our D will hold ground before theirs!!
You just gotta BELIEVE!! (Hey it worked for the Obamas!!)
