Georgia Adds Idaho State Bengals To 2010 Slate.
The Athletic Association announced today that Idaho State will visit Athens on November 6, 2010, rounding out the 2010 schedule.
The Big Sky Conference Bengals were 1-11 in 2008 and have started 2009 0-4, so no one is going to really laud us for amping up our out of conference schedule with this announcement. That being said, the 2010 nonconference slate already included a trip to play Colorado to go with the season ending home match with Georgia Tech and a home opener against Louisiana-Lafayette. After playing Oklahoma State and Arizona State this season I think we've earned the right to coast for a season by merely playing our traditional ACC rival and a road game against a Big XII opponent.
Plus the matchup comes after the Cocktail Party in Jacksonville and before our November 13th road date with Auburn. If we're going to play a cupcake that's the optimum scenario for it. I think this is good, pragmatic scheduling by Damon and company.
Until tomorrow . . .
Go 'Dawgs!!!

Practical but boring
As hard as this year’s schedule is, it’s been a lot of fun already. Looking at our non-con schedules, we don’t have an intriguing non-con game until 2015 when we play at Oregon. The Clemson matchup in 2013 and 2014 is good, but the Colorado and Louisville matchups are kind of boring. There are some schools, notably Boise State, that will accept payoffs for one off games. We have an opening for the first game of 2012 and I don’t think louisville will be that tough that year (if their downward trajectory continues, of course, who knows), so I would like to see us get the most competitive home game we can get for that spot. I’m not sure Mark Richt wants to do that, but, as a fan, I like the no fear scheduling.
One of these days we’re going to get a great non-con game. Due to the selection order in the years we have been in the BCS, we did not get to play premier teams (although WVU turned out to be pretty good). It would be nice to play USC, TX, Oklahoma, Ohio State etc. one of these years. I think we should embrace the opportunity if it comes along, even if it means 3 games against BCS teams.

I embrace the opportunity to play any of your aformentioned teams...
… in any BCS bowl game any year… preferably in the BCS Championship Game.
Though, I would note that if it is the BCS Championship Game, I would prefer that the opponent be Ohio State.

(For obvious reasons)

Compared to this year and '08...
That 2010 schedule looks very, very doable.
Best schedule in a while...
no month stretch away from Athens. No more than 2 games consecutive away from home (including the Cocktail Party). While once next year rolls around it may prove different, with the current state of Colorado and others you’d assume we wouldn’t have any tough stretch of 3 or more consecutive games against top 20 teams.
On paper a year away, it looks like the easiest schedule for some time.
One hitch...
… 11 straight weeks of games before our bye week on the penultimate weekend of the regular season. Even if you’re playing UL-Lafayette and Idaho State, 11 straight weeks will take it out of any team.
I guess all I’m really saying is I don’t like our prospects for the Auburn game next year. (Kyle hates Auburn.)

Hopefully Gene Chizik...
can take care of that for us. There had to be a reason beyond Ames why he was so bad at Iowa St.
considering all the pansies this year
i dont mind a break next year. And lets keep in mind, in recent years many of the non conference games were supposed to be against fo real teams – they just turned out not to be that good. People like to weight non conference games, but if you look at the schedules and rankings this year – its not SO important. Undefeated and an SEC ring will take care of things, regardless of the non conference. and for me, NO, i do NOT want to play a Texas or USC or the likes of that – we have already shown piss poor performance in marquee games and the last thing I want is a bad ass program on our schedule in the opening weeks.
I'm not sure what you mean by "marquee games"
In the Mark Richt era, the Bulldogs have played regular-season out-of-conference games against Clemson in 2002 and 2003, Boise State in 2005, Colorado in 2006, Oklahoma State in 2007 and 2009, and Arizona State in 2008 and 2009. Georgia is 7-1 in those eight games, without counting a 7-1 record against Georgia Tech or a 6-2 record in bowl games. I’d call that a pretty good performance.
Go 'Dawgs!
Maybe "marquee conference games"...
Bama and Florida last year, or Florida most every year, couple times vs. UT, in Baton Rouge in 03 (countered by LSU at home in 04 of course). Wonder if Richt’s worse extracted record might be home conference games at late evening/night.
That list Kyle provides . . .
also raises an excellent point about “tough” OOC scheduling. When Boise St. was scheduled they didn’t have nearly the reputation they had by 2005, nor did Ok. State when they were added. Colorado on the other hand looked like more of a marquee game when scheduled than when played.
While that’s not germane to Idaho State specifically, it does go to show that when you schedule 3-5 years out a lot can change before kickoff.
