Around SBN: Tiger Woods Makes His 2012 PGA Tour Debut

we got a great West Coast Offense, but unfortunately a

West coast Defense to go with it.  Any thoughts on what ASU is going to try next week?   Can someone please phone CWM and tell him?  Its, uh, like, totally obvious.

I am going to go out on a limb here and say they are going to throw the ball all over the place.   The question is, will UGA have some sort of ball control to thwart the big play and a solid pass D?

So, my early, early, early thoughts are that 3 weeks in a row of this insanity can not happen or we will all die from heart attacks and UGA will win in a more normal football game by 14 points.

Things that get way annoying that I hope change:  penalities.   1st and 10 bombs, repeat.   turnovers.  Poor kickoffs and coverage.  Poor punt coverage and returns.   not flipping the field.   not controlling the ball and clock and field.   and lastly, whatever on earth this Defense is doing in the zone.

I am already looking forward to next week!

What our offense needs to understand

is the we have a really good punter who CAN flip the field. There is absolutely no reason to have turnovers in your own 30 yard line when 4th down you have Butler back there who can boot it. Frustrating!

I’d really like a normal game next week. Just a quiet, 17 point win where we run the ball and put in some subs. We also need to start getting Logan Gray some snaps at QB with the starting team. Not just one play here or there, but a couple drives. A solid lead early in the 2nd quarter this coming week would be perfect. We gotta start seeing how he performs in gametime.

I completely agree

I have been posting extensively about ball control. I specifically wrote that Cox needs to learn getting 20 yards and a punt isnt always a bad thing. I thought his passes were often times forced – but AJ Grenn is just so darn good he catches them and Moore had a coming out party. We can’t rely on that every week. I also would like to see our back up QBs (both of them) get snaps – which will require a comfortable margin and good ball control. DJ Shockley’s success in his last year after watching David Greene set all time winning record was due to fact he got, what, several quarters on occasion? But he definately got playing time.

Back to the old

I agree, I did not understand why Cox felt the need to toss it long all the time. BALL CONTROL!!! We need to give our defense more of rest between snaps. Samuel and King both are very good backs that can pound the opposing team’s defenses. They are two different style backs that we need to utilize. We have always been a run first team, since when did we start to become a west coast/spread offense type team. We need to run the ball and probably fire Willie Martinez as of today we ranked 97th in the nation in total defense. We will never win the SEC with defense like that., we have the talent back they lack good coaching

the guy was national offensive player of the week....

and you guys are piling on Cox? You’ve averaged 46 PPG the past 2 weeks. I think the offense is working just fine.

Thanks, skigator93 . . .

. . . for injecting that note of sanity.

There are problems with two-thirds of Georgia’s game. The offense is the one-third that needs little in the way of serious work.

I think he's recovered quite well from a shaky week 1

Granted, Arkansas plays horrendous defense, but the throws still need to be made, and many of those were picture perfect – hitting the UGA receivers in stride.

I’m not sure what is wrong with the defense – too many athletes over there to be playing that poorly.

I did not have to agree

Cox got yardage – sure. But I see him standing flat footed, often confused on the play, not aware of the clock. Green and Moore made the difference in the game.

However, no, I do not consider the O to be the biggest problem – OH, except for 9 turnovers in 3 games, which would be all O.

And the ball control is horrendous, which again falls on the O. I will continue to say – I consider the D piss poor, however it is very hard to objectively judge things when the ST and O throw the D under the bus so routinely.

You have to admit, though . . .

. . . that Joe Cox did a much better job of hitting his receivers in stride, and of throwing the deep ball, last Saturday night. I don’t know whether it’s health-related, but Cox improved by leaps from Oklahoma State to South Carolina, and by bounds from South Carolina to Arkansas.

In Fayetteville, the ‘Dawgs had nine scoring drives, six of which covered at least 57 yards, and none of Georgia’s 52 points were scored on kickoff returns, punt returns, interceptions, or fumble recoveries. The Red and Black held the ball for nearly 32 minutes and had ten more running plays than pass plays, despite the Bulldog quarterback having nearly a 70 per cent completion rate (with a couple of Tavarres King drops dragging down the average) and tying a school record for touchdown passes. When Georgia needed to run out the clock, Georgia did exactly that. What is that if not ball control?

Usually, I’m right there with you, tankertoad, but I think the Bulldog offense gave you on Saturday what you said you wanted the week before.

i definately agree with improvement

I absolutely agree he looks better every week. And, I will even say that although I think AJ caught the uncatchable at times, its smart to throw it to him where no one but his amazingness can catch it. The problem is Cox is a senior and he maybe very good in game 10, but I am dreadfully worried about other guys getting playing time. Again – DJ Shockley’s success came from getting playing time – quarters of time sometimes. Which, that doesnt have everything do to with Cox, a little bit of a side bar. I do feel a senior, starts or not, shouldn’t so often looked confused on the play, and take delay of games. He seems to be trying to hard to prove his arm (and his arm did look good, I concede). I want to see him get smarter, move his body, and work the game – i am a believer in his deep pass now. And no, the ball control was horrible. 3 turnovers is horrible. YOu have the stats – look at our opponents starting field position – its horrible. So, we are apples and oranges amongst O problems, D problems and Cox sentiment.
