Chance of UGA running a 3-4 at times this year?
So basically, what I'm wondering is the consensus around here about the chances that we'll see some 3-4 on defense this year. I know Martinez is not particularly a tricky fellow, but there's just something about the returning players we've got that strikes me as a the perfect opportunity to throw a wrench in the system of some team who's prepared for our ever vigilant 4(-2)-3.
Mainly I say this because of the obvious wealth of talent we have at DT. Now, I realize that none of these fellows is a true NT, but I'm not suggesting that our entire defense is going to switch to a 3-4 the majority of the time. I'm mainly wondering about the 3rd down situations, or times when we're in need of extra coverage (think 4 LBs which really translates to 3 LBs and an extra safety).
Now, I also don't want this to sound like I'm down on our DE's, but we're all aware of the issues that group has had in the last year, and I don't know if it would be a bad call to have Owens, Adkins and Weston on the line at the same time. Those three are arguably more likely to record sacks than any of our DE's, and having one or two of them coming off the edge (with a down LB on the other end, possibly) doesn't strike me as a bad idea.
So, really, what does everyone think? Is there a good chance we see a couple downs of solid, true 3-4 defense in more than 1 game this year?

I don't think we'll see much . . .
of it. But I think we may see a 3-3-5 look in our nickel package, which functionally can be a very similar scheme. A lot of it will depend on how you classify Daryl Gamble or Marcus Washington on any given play. But as far as an every down scheme, I’d be shocked. Coach Martinez likes him scheme with the two quick defensive tackles inside and pressure from the outside using the defensive ends in man-to-man matchups.
