. . . but it was worth a mention, nevertheless.

(Much obliged to the fine fellows at The Rivalry, Esq., for bringing it to my attention.)

I'll believe it when I see it....

…considering how immediately Michigan dispensed with their previously announced “hiatus” in their annual snooze-fest with the Fainting Irish 2 years ago, after AD Evans got on the horn to them about trying to arrange a home & away. That said, maybe the financial necessity of packing them in for their new luxury boxes is causing them to think outside the box. Although we know that UM never schedules the SEC unless it is strictly on a you-come-to-me basis as they did with Vandy about 4 years ago. To be fair, they have had some success in the New Year’s Day bowls down in Florida. the past 10 years. But I would love for our guys to show them that there is one SEC that NEVER wets the bed against the Big Ten in the past half-century. VERY hard to see them condescending to come to Athens however; and as a point of honor we should not schedule them unless they do – perhaps with a nice hefty buy-out clause in case they can’t make it, say $5 million.

*Sniff* The Game, we never knew how you felt

. . . but a matchup with a marquee SEC opponent could be exactly what it takes to sell out the newfound 2010 luxury boxes faster than a Denard Robinson 100-m time.

Marquee? Marquee? The Game, we, we . . . we’re just . . . shocked. And grateful! We just never thought anyone would think of us that way. Thank you, The Game. It means more than you’ll ever know.

Seriously, though, there are no words to describe how much I would like to see this happen. But the years would have to be different, because the second game needs to be played in 2012, thus coinciding with the end of the world (according to those smarty-pants Mayans), pigs flying, hell freezing over, and Mississippi State playing Vanderbilt for the conference championship..

Leaving insightful football commentary and analysis to other people since 2006.

As long as...

We get the game in before December 21st, we’ll be okay.

Yeah, we have confirmation that this is garbage

Both David Hale and Brian Cook have debunked the myth.

History suggests strongly that this possibility is remote even in the long term (if we define “the long term” as “Bill Martin’s lifetime”), but it isn’t even within shouting distance of reality in the short term.

I knew it was too good to be true, hence my skepticism when posting it.

I wouldn't say they debunked it Kyle

They offered reasons why it would be difficult, not sources flat out denying it. I think the UM UGA matchup in 2010 is fairly conceivable, even if it means a return trip to Athens in 2012 or 2013 rather than 2011.

I wouldn’t put it past either of our ADs to pull this off. I may not believe in my heart this will happen, but I’m excited that both Georgia and Michigan media are reporting this. What’s wrong with a little misguided hope in the dismal off season?

So far as us Dawgs are concerned.....

not so much, perhaps. Wish I could say the same for Florida, but results from the 2002 and 2007 bowl seasons were kind of embarrassing to the SEC on that account. I understand that some Wolverines were sporting bumper stickers after their last Cap One Bowl that said “Appalachian State was tougher.” In fairness, Alabama’s last outing against the Tom Brady-led Wolverines was also a loss. But for the past 50+ years, it has been the case in the SEC that if you need a job done against the Big Ten, best to send a Dawg to do it.

No so much

I’ll have to disagree. Since when is it embarassing to lose by 6 in a bowl game during a rebuilding year? Michigan followed up that game by going 3-9 last year after losing a ton of seniors. Meanwhile, our young defense came of age and we won a national title. Let’s just say that Michigan caught us at a good time. I doubt they are still displaying their bumper stickers.

In fact, 2 of past 3 national titles won by SEC teams came against our Big 10 whipping boy (and undisputed best team in the conference), Ohio State.

No, No, a thousand times, No..

Making the schedule tougher is insanely stupid.

We don’t need to be scheduling Oregon, Colorado, etc. as UF proves. This garners us NOTHING. Idiotic.
