Top Four Seeds Fall in Hoover

Stay connected for news and updates

The first day of the 2009 S.E.C. baseball tournament in Hoover, Ala., featured nothing but upsets: No. 1 Louisiana State lost to No. 8 Vanderbilt, No. 2 Florida lost to No. 7 Arkansas, No. 3 Ole Miss lost to No. 6 Georgia, and No. 4 Alabama lost to No. 5 South Carolina.

That means the early games today will be elimination games between the Gators and the Rebels at 11:00 a.m. and between the Bayou Bengals and the Crimson Tide at 2:30 p.m. At the end of those two outings, two of the top four seeds will have been bounced from the tournament.

The Diamond Dogs are scheduled to square off with the seventh-seeded Razorbacks at 6:00 this evening, with the Commodores slated to take on the Gamecocks later tonight. If Georgia prevails today, David Perno’s club will get the day off tomorrow and will play again at 2:30 on Saturday. Should the Classic City Canines come up short tonight, they will return to action on Friday at 4:00 to take on the Florida-Ole Miss winner.

For the record, C&F picked the Red and Black, but that may not do us a lick of good. Stay tuned to Team Speed Kills for news and updates on the tournament throughout the day.
