Coach Fox Hired; Stegeman Coliseum to be Nicknamed "The Henhouse"

That’s our new basketball coach?

Oh, wait . . . Mark Fox. Well. O.K. Still, though . . .

Judging by the fact that he’d never set foot on campus when he took the job, it appears likely that Damon Evans took my advice, but, either way, as long as Paul Westerdawg is happy, I’m happy.

Welcome to Bulldog Nation, Coach Fox!

I reserve the right to judge Coach Fox at some point in the future

I seem to remember Duke hired some random assistant coach from Army that seemed out of left field, no one could pronounce his name, and he was nearly run out of Durham in a couple of years. How did that work out for them? I’m not suggesting that Coach Fox could be another Coach K, but just because the initial reaction is “Who the heck is that?” doesn’t mean it won’t turn out to be a great hire.

Coach Fox “didn’t tour the campus”, which is different from “never set foot on”. I believe Nevada played at the Steg not too many seasons ago. Nice that we made such a positive impression. A wolf pack made of bulldogs is going to be tough for the felines, lizards and elephants to deal with. Col Reb’ll probably make it out alive though.

Fair point

If I’m not mistaken, he saw Stegeman Coliseum prior to the start of the current construction . . . which, come to think of it, probably is a point in his favor. If his impression of Georgia’s basketball facilities is based on what he saw circa 2004 and he still wanted to come to Athens, well, then, by golly, we’ve found our guy!

I think the point from that comment is that he really wanted to be at UGA.

They didn’t need to bring him in, and pamper him for a few hours, have him sleep over his contract and ask for a sign from God to take this job, he wanted it and he took it fairly quickly after it was offered to him i imagine. From what i read about the guy i really like him and think he could do big things at UGA. And fits perfectly in the mold of what King was looking for.

Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win.

Stegeman

I vote for “The Fox Hole”.

As far as the coach, I’m definitely reserving judgement. I hope he can bring in his unsigned 4* shooting guard, or else ‘09-’10 is gonna be really rough.

How much rougher could it get than 2008-'09?

People are willing to be patient if they see progress. Mark Richt had the same record in his first season that Jim Donnan had in his last season. Tubby Smith had the same record in his first season that Hugh Durham had in his last season. Coach Richt received a better bowl bid and Coach Smith received an N.C.A.A. tournament bid because of the correct perception that both teams were on the upswing.

I’m good with “The Fox Hole,” though. I like “The Henhouse” because of the idea of Coach Fox guarding it, but “The Fox Hole” is better, on balance . . . although the T-shirts “The Henhouse” would inspire for home games against South Carolina would be spirited!

Also . . .

. . . given the new coach’s up-tempo style and our canine mascot, might it fairly be said that there is a point in a game at which Fox releases the Hounds? (We’re really going to enjoy this guy’s tenure, aren’t we?)

Any word whether Coach Fox will be introduced to Bulldog Nation at G-Day? ‘Cause I think that’d be a good call. If he can’t be there himself, maybe Dauber or Luther Van Damm will be there. (Dang it, did it again!)

Now, see, if the other Fox was your coach

Then I would be a reliable fan of Georgia basketball. I’d watch every game.

Team Speed Kills. All SEC, all the time.

If we went with that other Fox . . .

. . . would that make your coverage of Georgia basketball at Team Speed Kills fair and balanced?

Sorry. I couldn’t resist.

I'd say it's pretty fair and balanced

That was funny, but Georgia basketball stinks and cocknfire says as much

Apropro of nothing...

….but every time I see that picture of Megan Fox I think of the line from Dancefloors “there ain’t nothing glowing like the skin you’re showing and the keys you gave to me…”
