I just can't get excited
about some 17/18/whatever year old’s announcement.
Honestly wouldn’t care if he went to Tennessee or USC, and I’m tempted to say I would prefer it. My friend is a Michigan fan, and when Pryor was deciding between Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State (among others?), my friend told me “Forget that, we don’t want him if he’s deciding between us and Ohio State.”
Not to say Charles is a bad guy/kid/whatever, but I like the guys like Washaun Ealey that decided a couple years ago and never waivered. I don’t care for the guys that wait until the last minute. Just seems like they need some ego boost.
But really, I think I’m just sickened at how recruiting is nowadays. You got grown men taking their shirts off for 16/17/whatever year olds and bumping chests. You got a grown man saying he prays to a higher power for the right kids (aka the guys that will win us a championship). You got Urban Meyer slandering everybody.
Just a sick business.
I think you missed the point
When Richt said he’s praying for the right guys, I don’t think he means “(aka the guys that will win us a championship).” Now personally, I’m not a person of deep faith, but I can appreciate those that are. I believe Coach Richt believes that by praying, he will have young men directed into his life that need someone like Coach Richt to have a postiive impact on their lives and mold them into men. I don’t think he’s praying that God convinces some five-star recruit to pick Georgia over playing elsewhere.
I don’t disagree with you about the whole recruiting business though. I don’t get geeked up about it because you never know how 17-18 year olds are going to react. Some have peaked athletically in high school. Some can’t handle being away from home. Some come from less competitive areas where they got by on sheer talent alone and now are thrust into a room where most guys in there are on the same level or better athletically. Then there are some guys that aren’t very heralded that turn out to have stellar careers. Recruiting really is a crapshoot.
