Around SBN: Jerry Sandusky's Wife Tries To Run A Reporter Over

An unrelated aside on high school mock trial

As many of you will recall from last year, I serve as a volunteer attorney coach for the Georgia high school mock trial team from Luella High School. Today was the date for the regional competition in the increasingly competitive McDonough region.

Although our team did not advance to the finals, our students represented their school well against some very tough opposition and earned a number of distinctions, including winning three out of a possible four best witness awards and three out of a possible four best lawyer awards in the four rounds in which they competed.

I know there are a lot of fellow attorneys who read the site regularly, and, for any of you who are not involved in this program, I would encourage you to take part as a coach or as an evaluator. I promise you that you'll feel good about your profession after spending a day at a regional mock trial competition, and I am very proud of this team for doing such a fine job today.

Great work!

Kyle, I applaud your dedication to a program in which you love. I participated in Mock Trial when I was in High School and have fond memories to this day. I can not say that I have volunteered with a local Mock Trial team (as I am totally unqualified), but I have volunteered with Boy Scouts while in Athens (and I need to get back into it today). Congratulations on your team’s success with their awards and wish them the best next year.

I love mock trial...

I co-coach a JuCo team here in Iowa and one in middle school (also in Iowa). As proud as I am of the college team (we advanced to regionals, winning 3/4 rounds), I love working with the kids the best. The 11 and 12 year-olds are THE fiercest advocates; arguing every point of law or fact with the certitude that only adolescence can bring. I applaud you for your work, not only because I know how much work and emotion it takes (a lot), but also because they do care and you are serving as a mentor and role model. Kudos.

"penis fish"…google that, and the candiru is the first thing that pops up
