Around SBN: Jeremy Lin Continues Rampage, New York Wins On Road

Are you kidding me?

Did the round ball Georgia Bulldogs, losers of 11 straight, just beat the Florida Gators?  Congratulations to the Coach Herrmann and the rest of the "forgotten" Dawgs of the hard court.  Let's hope they build off this victory and provide for the Bulldog Nation a glimmer of hope for the OUR basketball program, which has dwelt in mediocrity for so long. So let's go out and get a coach that can bring a smidgen of respect to the "Stege-saurus" and bring a National Championship to Ole Georgia!

Yeah, I had to read that twice

I was pretty sure it was a typo.

Granted, it’s only one game, so we ought to resist the temptation to read too much into it, but it does prevent the very real possibility of being beaten in every conference game.

I hate to keep using Florida as our model, but the Gator athletics program has earned it. Florida had no more basketball tradition than Georgia has just a few years ago, but they got the right coach to take advantage of their natural advantages . . . and, given the wealth of basketball talent in the Atlanta area, the Bulldogs ought to be well positioned to make a move, if the funding is there (which it now is), the fans are there (which they aren’t yet, but will be if a winner is put on the court), and the coach is there (which remains the big question).

Go 'Dawgs!

Today...

… we are all acutely aware that Georgia still has a basketball program.

I hate Florida. We could have just beaten the Gators in tiddly-winks and I’d celebrate it. For us to get a chance to play spoiler as they try to vie for a high seed in the tourney, though… that makes it even sweeter.

The kicker? Mark Richt gave the team a pep talk motivational speech yesterday as they were getting ready for this game. Chalk another one up in the “good signs pointing to 10/31/2009” column…

Hmm...

Upon further review, it looks like Florida is merely a bubble team this year. (Or, at least, so says Chip Towers.) That shows how closely I’ve been following round-ball this year. Oh, how I hope this game is the one that sends them to the NIT.

No

They were trying to keep pace to remain tied for first in the SEC East. As of today, there were no SEC teams ranked.

Congrats and clarification

I posted a message of congrats in the gymnastics thread (bad placement, I know), but congrats on yesterday’s victory – there are no excuses, you simply outplayed us yesterday.

To clarify, I believe UF is pretty much NIT bound (again). Barring a late season run (which is most unlikely after losing 3 of 4), we are out of the NCAA tourney again. We still lack a decent big man that can get rebounds and easy put backs. We have exactly one quality player – Calathes, who is outstanding, but needs help. Hopefully next year we’ll turn the corner and get back to NCAA tourney status, but it’ll take one of these “big” recruits to actually pan out – over the past couple years, they have all been nig disappointments
