Has anyone heard?!
As some of us expected (and hoped) Florida Defensive Coordinator Charlie Strong is expected to take the head coaching job at Louisville. He is expected to meet the team on Wednesday, after the board has been asked if they approve of his hiring. This is big not just because Strong has been a huge part of Florida's successful defense, but also because he's a great recruiter. Mostly, I'm just excited about the fact that we wont have to annually face his defense which ranked #1 in scoring defense this season (until the Alabama game).

Salty with the sweets
Well, I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but ya may want to take a look at our schedule in a couple of years.
Wishing Charlie well
He has surely earned a head coaching job….I would ahve hoped somewhere better than Louisville, but if he does well there, other, better programs will soon come knocking.
I was at first concerned about the recruiting aspect too – but after some investigation, I determined that Strong was not that important as a recruiter to the Gators.
I just hope that we don’t replace Strong from within – as that failed miserably with our OC position.
willie martinez is available, and he isnt "from within"

That literally made me laugh out loud (not in a text message "lol" sort of way)
100 cocktails and a stick of butter for you, tankertoad!
I would say “two thumbs up,” but that would just be mean.
Go 'Dawgs!
You two just make me laugh on a regular basis
thank you!

you just have to be willing to pick it up in Tulsa........

For shame, tankertoad... for shame.
The nut drupe in question is most certainly pronounced “puh-cahn”… or, sometimes, “pee-cahn.”
A “pee-can” is what they give you in the hospital when you can’t get out of bed.
With that said, however, I also am partial to “Puh-cahn” Pie… no better pie was ever made for the winter months. (In the summer, I like some not-too-tart, not-too-sweet Key Lime Pie.)

If you're willing to pick it up in Tulsa,
you can have a “puh-cahn” pie……home made from scratch with a butter cream pie crust (which means I substitute butter and cream for the typical shortening and water in my pie crust.)

According to Google Maps...
… it takes approximately 13 hours and 47 minutes to get from Athens to Tulsa.
I’ll be there in approximately 11 hours to pick up my Butter Cream Pecan Pie. :-)

I have to side with tankertoad on this one
As Jujdog has said on many an occasion, “If you say ‘puh-cahn,’ you ought to say ‘puh-nut.’”
Gaelic is how they mispronounce Irish in Scotland and “puh-cahn” is how they say “pee-can” in Ohio and other places that don’t have pecans in the first place and, therefore, can’t possibly know how to say it correctly.

We can agree to disagree...
… even though I maintain that a pee-can is what they give you in the hospital when you can’t get out of bed.
For the record, though, I have lived virtually my entire life in Georgia (mostly in middle and south Georgia as a child), and my family has always said either “puh-cahn” or “pee-cahn.” I believe my argument also gains an additional measure of credence due to the fact that my grandfather owned a pecan orchard in Crawford County.
Oh, and since we’re on the topic of pronunciations, I do say “All-beeny,” “Kay-roh,” and “Lewis-ville.” So, we’ll just have to agree to disagree on Georgia’s #1 cash crop.

No offense intended, vineyarddawg
Your Georgia credentials are, of course, rock solid.
As you know, I am a North Georgia (Atlanta area) native, but my entire family hails from (and almost my entire family lives in) South Georgia. That makes me particularly conscious of the differences between the Piedmont and the Coastal Plain . . . e.g., shooing away gnats with a wave of the hand or a swift expulsion of air from the side of the mouth; ignoring people as you drive by them or raising your right hand from the steering wheel to wave as you pass; etc.
My experience has been that “puh-cahn” is an Atlanta-area pronunciation and “pee-can” is a South Georgia idiom, but I could be wrong.
Good job on the city pronunciations, though. Don’t forget “Vie-anna,” home of the Big Pig Jig. (There are numerous certified barbecue judges in my family.)
Go 'Dawgs!
No offense taken
And you are 100% correct on the gnat shooing method. One of the easiest ways to tell a native south Georgian from a non-native is that the non-native looks like they’re directing traffic during the summer with all the gnats.

Shooing gnats
I would not think that I would have to weigh in on the issue but having spent a lot of time on my grand daddy’s farm in Alachua County, Fl. and living in Albinny Ga. while my daddy built the old Turner Air Forc e Base, the best way to keep gnats out of your face is to tear a hole in the seat of your pants.
bonus round
my Mother is from Lafayette, Georgia. And how do the north georgians pronounce that?
"Why are we in shotgun on 3rd and 3 against the blitz?" - me
Dude, this is getting weird.
I lived the first 8 months of my life in “Luh-FAY-ett.”

Crawford County?
Now you’re talking bout down in my neck of the woods…..so since we’re doing pronunciations, how do you pronounce Houston County?
"Never refuse to do a kindness unless the act would work great injury to yourself, and never refuse to take a drink- under any circumstances." Mark Twain
Back before there was "House-ton" county high
I graduated from Warner Robins High School, class of 1990, home of the Demons (not the Rockin R’s or the Northside Chickens either.)
But if you wanted to find yourself a good party – you headed out to the woods in Twiggs County, so long as the sheriff didn’t catch you that is.
"Never refuse to do a kindness unless the act would work great injury to yourself, and never refuse to take a drink- under any circumstances." Mark Twain
Houston
General House-ton would have had it no other way.
Is it still May-retta
or is it Mary-etta these days?

Depends whether or not if you've lived in Cobb County since before 1990
That goes for Kenny-saw, too.

Key lime
Careful vineyarddawg, that’s a Florida product. Next thing you know, you’ll be wearing orange and blue striped golf shirts.
eep...
… never mind. I meant peach cobbler. That’s what I said, right? Homemade peach cobbler with fresh Georgia peaches.

sweet, thanks for that Kyle!
I keep thinking you need some kind of annual (or fall) awards. Because I am not joking, if i need to laugh, I think “I’m so jacked I just ate a stick of butter.” that was seriously damn funny. best one liner ever on a dawg sports game thread.

Totally agree
The whole “butter” line of comments was hilarious. “Like hot butter through a nerd” is one of my favorite non sequiturs.
