You know, if Georgia doesn't blow that game to Kentucky, they would have ended the season winning six of seven, with the only loss being to Florida. If that had happened, I think most fans would be downright giddy about the future. And since that UK loss was really nothing more than a few fluke plays in a game the Bulldogs otherwise dominated, I'd suggest that fans still head into 2010 with a good bit of enthusiasm and excitement.
There's just enough coming back that the Dawgs could be very dangerous, and just enough questions that this should be an interesting offseason. I'm looking forward to it.
How can I be The Man when David Hale is The Man? (Please note that another reporter mistook Clemson for an SEC team, so, apparently, it's not just me.)

Past performance and all that
I expressly reserve the right to be wildly optimistic at first kickoff. Kinda like spring is eternal optimism time for baseball. I also reserve the right to be head explodingly angry and depressed at the appropriate time when things don’t go like we would like them to. There, that should about cover my career as a Dawg fan. And oh yeah, sorry beergut. Stick to what you obviously know, and SEC football ain’t one of them.
Yep - this is exactly what I plan to do.
Is it kick off time yet?

I agree but...
I am going to reserve the right to be wildly optimistic up and until I see something to make me head explodingly angry. I ain’t waiting until kickoff to be crazy optimistic!!!
Not to pick...
I see reasons for optimism in that our younger players outperformed our veteran players, but the fact we outgained/outplayed Kentucky is of little relevance or any reason for optimism in much the same reason our loss to Florida in ‘08 wasn’t. There were long stretches in that game as well where we outplayed the Gators (I’d say the whole first half), but still came out on the losing end (and by a large margin). They won, we lost. We didn’t win 6 of our last 7. Be optimistic by all means because of many things, but an almost win over Kentucky shouldn’t be one of them. We almost beat OSU, we almost beat LSU, we almost beat UK and had that happened, we would be 12-2. But it didn’t….so stop trying to rationalize.
I'm with you
but I’m going to be wildly optimistic because that’s my personality. Eternal Optimist. I see things like a healthy offensive line, a running back tandem that is punishing, a couple of QBs who can really play and have had a year of practicing for SEC contests under their belt, the return of most of our starting offense, the potential for better defensive schemes, better preparation of the defense, adjustments, a refocusing of the special teams unit, the potential to recruit taller DBs, the potential to use TEs, WRs, and RBs in the passing game, the potential to have the HC refocused and perhaps not be a delegator person who hands over authority to easily and instead gets more involved with the coaching up of the players. I think we saw a significant amount of that in preparation for the Independence Bowl. All of those things PLUS the fact that it’s a new season coming and everybody will have the same record, players will be looking forward to the upcoming season, they will have seen the aftermath of not being hungry and listening to the press and sportscasters about how great your team is. That one should cause them to be determined to make a point in the SEC this year. Those are the main reasons for my optimism, probably more the eternal optimist that anything else, but those are my reasons.
