we have to keep in mind that no D coordinator can come in and change the entire scheme in a month. To try and adjust the scheme as best you can is all you can hope for. On top of that, we have to keep in mind that a 6’ DB vs a 6’5" WR is a losing cause mosr of the time for the DB. The adjusrments were made, some while the offense was on the field, and to make adjustments in that short span in the first half was a miracle all its own, but a lot of adjustments were made at the half. Kudos to Coach Garner and the GAs on that.

…although the ploy of setting up a straw-man in order to argue a bogus point or get in a kick at the opposition is one of the oldest rhetorical tricks in the book (and frequently one of the most tiresome). Our D has degraded significantly over the past several yearsw – often, to embarrassing levels. “Fixing” it will be a process. But who can deny that a good start has been made already, starting with the absence of Martinez & Co. on our sideline? Yes, our emergency Defensive staff, performing a one-month’s triage, could not change our overall scheme in preparation for this game. But when A&M – the No. 1 Offense in all the Big 12 – gains the majority of its yards in the first half and has precious damn little to show for it, that is “bend-but-DON’T-break” with a vengeance. As opposed to “bend-and-THEN-break” which we have seen repeatedly over the past 5 seasons. Coach Garner and our GA’s Doolittle and Hartley did a masterful job, and certainly got MUCH better effort from our players, who made us all proud. And let us also not forget our Special Teams, who was in charge of them this past season and how they performed Monday night by contrast. As I said previously, this game was a damning comment on the previous state of affairs and one could not ask for more compelling evidence that CMR made the right deicision a month ago. CMR is conducting a careful, deliberate search for a new DC, which has caused many of us to be very impatient at times. But consider well, how long our LAST DC search took, and what we got in return. Every “fix” begins with a single step and CMR has assuredly taken it.
